It’s also very physical: finally doing some difficult projects we’d put off for years; accepting that some just couldn’t get done; storing all our stuff (so, so much stuff); turning the house into a sparkling showplace that buyers could fall in love with; and working through the complexities of a real estate transaction. It was hard. Hard work, hard moments to get through, hard bumps and scrapes (which box are the band-aids in now?). But with Shemeika as our partner, the impossible became possible for us. Without her we might have despaired and been buried in our possessions for decades. Now we know the next chapter for our beloved home will be written by people who care, and we are free and living a new life. In the end we sold the house for over asking price a few days after the first showing. But that’s a tiny part of the story. Through all of this, we became close. The relationship with a realtor is strange and unique: getting to know Shemeika was an intensely personal experience, while at the same time knowing that it would result in us parting.
