Welcome to Beach Access - Fort Ord Dunes State Park

Discover the natural beauty and historical significance of Fort Ord Dunes State Park, located in Seaside, California. Spanning nearly 1,000 acres, this park offers four miles of pristine ocean beach with breathtaking views of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Opened to the public in 2009, it is a haven for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

Getting Here:

From Highway 1, take the Light Fighter Drive exit (bear right), turn left onto 2nd Avenue, then left onto Divarty Street. Turn right onto 1st Avenue and follow the signs to the park entrance at the 8th Street overcrossing of Hwy 1.

Explore and Learn:

At the main parking area, explore eight educational panels that provide insights into the former Fort Ord US Army Base and the park's rich natural history. Enhance your visit with a free mobile phone audio tour to delve deeper into the cultural and natural features of Fort Ord. Look for signs with instructions to access the tour (normal cell phone charges apply).

Preserve and Protect:

Fort Ord Dunes State Park is home to many endangered species. Help us protect these sensitive habitats by staying on designated trails and following California State Park rules. Practice "pack it out" rules for food and trash to keep the park pristine for future visitors.

Recreational Activities:

The park offers designated roads and trails for bicyclists, hikers, and dogs on leash. Please note that dogs are allowed on the recreation trail running north/south through the park but are not permitted on spur trails to the beach or on the beach itself, to protect endangered bird species and sensitive habitats.
