"So far, Dr. Saperstein has been a saving grace, blessing, and medical ally in my life. He truly understands, at least what science knows thus far, the complications and quirks of EDS. I have never been a patient of a doctor who listens so much and gives such valuable feedback. I understand the clinic does not bill insurance directly. Given what I know of the medical system, if the they did so, I believe others and I would surely get far less time consulting with the doctor due to administrative work and the little insurance companies will actually pay for. The clinic is not cheap, but the care I have received and having an ally knowledgeable about the rare/complicated medical issues the accompany EDS is absolutely worth it."
"Dear reader, Finding Dr. David Saperstein and being under his care at the Center for Complex Neurology has been a miracle for me. I’ve been in and out of over 30 doctor appointments through neurology, primary care, rheumatology, and pain management clinics for almost a year, until I landed on his doorstep through word of mouth from a random meeting. No other doctor could diagnose what was wrong with me up until that point. All the standard test results from EMG’s to X-rays, MRIs and various blood panels were all coming back “normal” or only on the mild side; nothing to explain the extreme symptoms that I was presenting with. It turns out that what I have requires nuanced expertise in order to know which tests will show why I was having the symptoms I was; chronic pain, fatigue, muscle spasms, joint and spine issues, shortness of breath, brain fog, memory issues, heart, GI, etc….the list goes on. I’ve had four medical professionals tell me my symptoms were all in my head, or that I was a hypochondriac. This was absolutely devastating to my mental, emotional, and physical health. I was being treated as if my pain and experience wasn’t real. This led to massive depression, anxiety, loss of confidence along with developing severe PTSD with doctors I see. Then, in one appointment, Dr. Saperstein spent two hours with me. He was kind, patient, and took my whole life’s medical history. He was able to diagnose me, order a slew of tests that showed results supporting my symptoms! Then, he offered an immediate treatment plan, medication along with reliable referrals to doctors that I need to see based on my conditions that no one else had bothered with. Dr. Saperstein explained everything in a way that made sense without dumbing content down. He validated me on every level and made me feel like I was being heard. After almost a year of rejections and going in circles, It was a true miracle meeting him at that point in time for me. I had no idea where I would turn otherwise. If you are in the fence about seeing him—he is well worth the wait, cost, and most importantly your health. Dr. Saperstein gave me back the gift of hope that one day I may get my life back. He’s an advocate for his patients and the community. His staff and technicians are supportive, helpful and communicate well, thus making an already great experience even better. —A grateful patient who has hEDS, MCAS, Sudomotor & small fiber Neuropathy."
"Let me save you some time and hopefully the disappointment that I went through since they don't have their pricing listed anywhere on their site- the initial consultation fee is $2200 and they don't offer any sort of payment plan; just that they accept care credit, so essentially you're on your own to open a new line of credit. Wonderfully helpful policy when your clientele group is patients living with complex conditions, many of whom will be struggling to barely get by financially as a result of their severe symptoms. While I understand from a business perspective not listing their pricing on their website (I'd imagine the sticker shock would chase away a large portion of potential patients) from a human perspective I feel like I had a carrot of hope dangled in front of my face then snatched away. It seems very unnecessary to have someone put in the energy to fill out a required intake form when if they had just been up front and had it under FAQs I would have known right away that I never could have afforded Saperstein and never would have been foolish enough to start to get my hopes up that I may have found a doctor who could actually help me after years of suffering and daily misery. I honestly hadn't planned to make a review- after all any patient with complex conditions and symptoms will tell you how they're completely used to not getting the care they need, and what a battle it is to get established with any attentive doctor who actually understands your condition and genuinely cares. What has moved me to write this is the practice's dismissive response to many of the reviews- stating in multiple posts to multiple different people that one of their justifications for the exorbitantly high and exclusionary cost. "We have adopted pricing and policies that are used at a number of well-regarded centers that see the same types of patients. Of these practices, almost none take insurance." It may help them sleep better at night to rationalize it to themselves in this way; but I think it's a pretty flawed argument to say they do it because it's what everybody else does in order to justify preying on an already financially burdened group that has often been subjugated and exploited by the medical system that is supposed to care about us as individuals. I find it extremely hard to believe that Dr. Saperstein spends any longer than 4 hours at most preparing for any new intake consult, which would come out to $500 an hour for his services if you break down the $2200 intake cost. I don't understand how anyone can see that written out and say that it isn't overinflated and predatory pricing, taking advantage of desperate people in pain willing to pay whatever they can for even a chance at a normal life. When I read through his site initially I was so excited to have possibly found a doctor that sounded like they not only knew a lot about EDS & POTS but also genuinely cared and wanted to help people, so it is INCREDIBLY disappointing to be informed of pricing that is reflective of yet another greedy individual just trying to make as much money as they possibly can. Based on the numerous 5 star reviews he seems like a talented doctor, but only if you're financially privileged enough in life to be able to afford him that is."
"I must have filled out volumes of paperwork. I was on a wait list for 2 years. Only for them to turn around a month before my appointment and cancel it because they don't take military veterans. Awesome! Here's to greed & karma! Truly hope he and his wife get theirs."
"Dr. Saperstein is honestly one of the best doctors I have ever seen by a large, large margin. He's takes the time to really investigate your condition and carefully diagnose you, and provides solid ongoing treatment. He's also extremely compassionate, a great listener and just overall such a kind and caring person. You can really tell that he wants to help and believes everything that you are experiencing. I actually wasn't too sure how much value I was going to get out of my appointments at first, as I already had my diagnosis and I had someone who was treating me - but the level of treatment I have been getting through Dr. Saperstein has completely blown me out of the water. I'm probably going to drop the other doctor I was seeing because there's almost no point anymore. He has a deep understanding of MCAS which has been super helpful to me, I didn't realize how badly it was wreaking havoc on my life until I started treatment with him. I had no idea I also had POTS, it was fantastic to get the tilt table test and the medication he provided for me has been SO NICE (especially in the AZ heat, I no longer need to carry ice packs with me everywhere haha). He thoroughly explains your conditions, immediately provides fantastic referrals so you can get treated as soon as possible, he doesn't give up if things don't work and he has a lot of tools in his tool kit to help. I've got some pretty trash bloodwork as I have long covid and there's some sort of potential auto-immune response at play, so I appreciated that he knew about some auto-immune diseases he could test me for and did so as well. I understand he's really expensive, it is a privilege to be able to see him. I honestly think he's completely worth the cost if you can swing it and I do not blame them for charging what they charge. Insurance companies regulate treatment and unfortunately with these conditions insurance barely recognizes them nor will they cover treatment for it anyway. It's not Dr. Saperstein's fault that our system sucks.. and our system really, really sucks haha. If you do have PPO health insurance you should have out of network coverage, and you can submit a claim to insurance and they should pay out depending on your plan. Just make sure to ask staff for a superbill to submit. I can say with confidence that he absolutely sees you for the full time that you are booked with him (which is like, 2 hours for the first appointment and 1 hour for the second), and he doesn't waste any time diving deep into your condition, taking meticulous notes and making sure the appointment is as helpful as possible. I do want to note that their staff has been very kind and helpful as well. Overall, I highly recommend this practice."
