"Canceled from Mohawk Valley ICU in Utica NY. Did one day on the unit with my preceptor. Next morning canceled and received the following complaints. (See below). I have traveled and worked in various ICU’s and performed just fine. My preceptor did not once ever address any of those issues or concerns with me and the concerns seemed very belittling of my knowledge and degrading. Currently shocked and saw how very petty the culture is of the unit and the nurse. Unit consists of alot of older nurses that have been there for a while and don’t know anything else and also not very diverse. I do not recommend this facility. SN- My preceptor that night even asked me if I was coming back and I said yes.. then said see you tomorrow. -Lacking assessment skills- listened to patient's shoulder instead of lung fields -Did not seem to understand ICU medical terminology -Staff reviewed NIH with her due to lack of exposure, gave handouts, and performed an NIH assessment with her and she failed to reciprocate for next exam. No initiative to provide teamwork to fellow staff within the ICU. (I literally helped out a nurse that got an admit last night) Did not provide accurate report to oncoming staff- failed to provide accurate diagnosis Does not address patient when she is in the room (introduce herself, speak to the patient, explain what she is doing) Rough with care, had to be corrected numerous times ( my preceptor never said anything to me) Had to be prompted for all medication administration, appeared as if she did not understand how to read the MAR. Not performing accurate Input and Output monitoring- making estimates not exact (exact is required in ICU) Does not know simple meds/drips ie: Cleviprex ( I am not a neuro icu nurse this is not a simple medication that every nurse knows about if they do not work in neuro.) Does not perform hand hygiene into and out of rooms Does not follow PPE donning and doffing appropriately. Taken from an anonymous poster ."
