About the Business
Welcome to The Sunken Lounge, a historic bar nestled in the heart of Queens, New York. Located at the iconic TWA Hotel, our lounge invites guests to step back in time and experience the glamour of the 1960s. Open to walk-ins, we offer a cozy, vintage atmosphere complete with views of our 1958 “Connie” plane and a captivating split flap departures board by Solari di Udine.
Join us in this legendary spot where history was made as crowds gathered to witness the Beatles' arrival in the United States in 1965. Relax on our plush upholstered benches and take in the ambiance, highlighted by authentic white penny tiles and the original Chili Pepper Red carpet.
Our menu pays homage to the era with classic 1960s cocktail favorites like "Vodka is My Co-Pilot" and unique signature drinks such as the "Jet Fuel," crafted with cucumber mint vodka, Aperol, and muddled watermelon. Our extensive selection of spirits, wines, and beers is complemented by elevated bar fare, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy.
In tribute to our storied past, our swizzle sticks are designed after TWA’s original sets, celebrating its global travel destinations and iconic fleet. Esteemed chef Jean-Georges leads our culinary team, promising a delightful dining experience. Plus, savor exclusive Intelligentsia coffee, available only at the TWA Hotel.
Please note, we do not accept reservations, but welcome all walk-ins. Takeout is available for those on the go. We occasionally host private events, so be sure to check for any closures to ensure we’ll be open during your visit.

"If you have some free time before your flight check out The TWA Lounge and Hotel at JFK. Perfect to get a quick bite and check out all the Nostalgia of TWA past."
"The Sunken Lounge was pretty groovy. The rich, retro, red lounge was warm and welcoming, and the view of Connie Cocktail Lounge out the back with the runway lights was far out. When we were watching the final season of The Fabulous Mrs. Maisel, it was neat to see TWA Hotel and The Sunken Lounge used as the set for the airport."
"We came here to check out the retro hotel while waiting for a relative to arrive. So fun to come and relive the days when we used to fly through here on TWA. We stopped at the Sunken Lounge for a drink and asked Paul, the bartender, for his best non-alcoholic drink. I wanted something creative. Well he did not disappoint! He came up with an inspired and refreshingly delicious concoction that we thoroughly enjoyed. We enjoyed our mock tail in this fun and retro atmosphere."
"The cocktails are great and the location is amazing. It's a beautiful room and you really do feel like you've been transported back to the 1960s. The only problem is the service - it took forever to get a drink the three times we've been here. Last time we had to resort to walking up to the bar ourselves to get an order filled."
"Went to the Sunken Lounge to celibate our 25th anniversary. We were sat promptly, however it took over 15 minutes for anyone to take our order, and that was taken by the hostess that sat us as the one server was just overwhelmed. Drinks came in a fairly reasonable amount of time, and were very good. However the food was another story, waited over 45 minutes for food to be brought out, while watching other tables that came after us get theirs, Not sure why it took so long to make a cheese board, a Butcher's block and a re-heated pretzel, I would hate to see how long it would take it we actually ordered real food. The long wait for the food killed the mood, and kept us from ordered additional drinks. After the food finally did arrive the staff was very apologetic and they did comp the food to help make up for the wait. The atmosphere is great, love how they re-did the old terminal."
