"Where do I start? It surprises me to see so many negative reviews about UPMC Shadyside. I moved to Pittsburgh in Feb 2023 from SW Florida and the healthcare that I have received at this hospital is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I am a 31-year-old, seemingly “healthy” individual who has become somewhat of a medical mystery to my team of doctors. It’s NO FUN when they can’t give you answers… however, I have been treated with nothing BUT respect and kindness by the nurses, doctors, radiology staff, phlebotomists, housekeeping, etc. My concerns are always addressed, my pain is treated promptly, and I’m always guided toward the next steps in the treatment plan. I will always choose to go to the ER at UPMC Shadyside when I need to go to the ER… I also get my blood work done here and see a skin cancer doctor in the medical building."

"I came into the hospital seeking help, with a health issue and didn't receive care for a long time. It seemed to be like they enjoyed the fact that the patient was in pain. Definitely not worth going for help."

"This place treated me like a criminal despite putting an effort to do enter the building correctly when all I was trying to do was see my brother with leukemia! I left the parking garage and walked through the first entrance I saw think it was entrance E or what ever and told the security guard it was my first time here where do I go, he then pointed me to a lady that told me the room my brother was located everything was fine unill I went up to the floor to sign myself in and the person at the desk asked me if I went through a metal detector and I was confused because I didn’t run into one and the security guard at the door didn’t mention anything about a metal detector so they just told me to sit in a waiting area for 15 mins just to have 3 police officers escort me back down just to metal detector me. The main entrance with the metal detector was like 10ft where I entered so why didn’t the security guard there direct me to the right place and make me come all the way back down?? Seriously? do better that was a really bad first experience and makes me feel profiled when I go there now when I'm not a threat to anyone!! But the doctors are great though and take care of him."

"Staff was great and prompt but I'm sad for them as the ER and rooms as a whole where disgusting! Garbage and biohazard waste everywhere! Bathroom had leaking water and spots/debris everywhere. Hoping I don't ever have to come back. Wiped everything with disinfectant before sitting down. Terrible."
