About the Business
At the UPMC Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, we believe that the best care is both competent and kind. We understand the significant impact epilepsy can have on your life, including physical, emotional, and social challenges. As a Level 4 epilepsy center, we have earned the highest ranking from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), underscoring our commitment to providing exceptional care.
Our primary mission is to help you better understand your epilepsy and offer the best possible care to manage and control your seizures, allowing you to enjoy life to its fullest. We invite you to download our Complete Guide to Epilepsy Care (PDF) to learn more.
Advanced Epilepsy Testing, Diagnosis, and Treatment
Our center utilizes the most advanced technology for testing and diagnosing epilepsy. Our goal is to stop your seizures, with medication being the first line of treatment. Our team of experts works diligently to make a clear-cut diagnosis and tailor treatment plans to control your seizures while minimizing side effects.
We ask for your patience as we determine if your medications are effective. Should follow-up care indicate that an optimized drug plan is insufficient, you will meet with one of our epileptologists—neurologists specialized in treating epilepsy. They will assess your condition and determine if surgery is a viable option based on the latest standards of care.
We offer a comprehensive range of modern surgical techniques for epilepsy, including less invasive and robotic-assisted surgeries.

Reviews
"This is the BIGGEST waste of time for myself, the hospital, and every employee they have in here. I've been sitting and lying in here since Tuesday afternoon, haven't had a single seizure happen, they haven't tried to induce any seizures, and the so-called doctors here seem to be afraid to get results and want to waste as much time as possible without any testing. Instead of taking my medicine fully away ON THE DAY I CAME IN, they slowly stopped it then spoke about sleep deprivation. Please inform me how sleep deprivation is a better idea than just taking the medicine away all at once. The biggest issue is that I'm in the epilepsy monitoring unit and I don't even have epilepsy, but the 'doctors' diagnosed me with that only because they were incompetent in finding out why I have seizures in the first place. Huge waste of time, big disappointment in the doctors, and they want to cause more damage than good with depriving me of sleep. The most annoying thing is all the wires and cables glued to my head, stuck to my body, and being told not to scratch my already itchy head (I have dreadlocks) and then being told not to cover my face with the blanket. Please make it make sense."
