About the Business
At Myriad Neuroscience, we provide valuable insights into how genetics can impact the effectiveness of medications through our GeneSight Psychotropic test. This pharmacogenomic test analyzes clinically significant genetic variations in your DNA, offering critical information to your healthcare provider on how you may metabolize or respond to medications commonly prescribed for conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other psychiatric disorders.
About the GeneSight Test:
- Ordering: The GeneSight test must be ordered by a healthcare provider or nurse practitioner.
- Sample Collection: A simple cheek swab collected in your healthcare provider’s office or at home using a kit sent by your provider.
- Insurance and Payment: We will bill your insurance for the test. Coverage varies, and if not covered, an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) must be signed by you, agreeing to pay the full cost. A reduced self-pay option of $330 is available for eligible patients.
- Results: The test report provides insights on medication dose adjustments, potential efficacy, and risk of side effects based on your genetic makeup. It also considers how smoking status might affect medication metabolism. Note that the test does not diagnose diseases, indicate medication allergies, or identify drug-drug interactions.
Clinical Validation:
The GeneSight test is backed by 7 clinical studies published in peer-reviewed journals. The largest study, the GUIDED Clinical Study, demonstrated significant improvements in depressive symptoms, response rates, and remission rates compared to treatment as usual.
Administration and Results:
- Sample Collection: Your clinician collects a DNA sample via a cheek swab, either in-office or at home.
- Turnaround Time: Test results are typically available to your healthcare provider within about 2 days after receiving your sample.
- Patient Experiences: Individual experiences with GeneSight may vary. Always consult your healthcare provider before making any changes to your medication regimen.
Healthcare Provider Directory:
If you do not have a clinician, we offer a directory of registered GeneSight providers in your area. Complete our form to access this directory and find a healthcare provider who can order the GeneSight test for you.

"The phone number just jerks you around and then you are put on hold for excessive amounts of time. This is unacceptable. They DO NOT respond to any emails of the various contact emails they provide on their site (it has been a month since I sent email). I got a call from billing on a Sunday when their business hours are M-F? As a health care professional myself this business just isn't worth the anxiety it causes patients and the COMPLETE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. The other reviewers with low ratings show the type of support you receive from this company. If anyone asks me about this test I will be completely honest with them about my experience."
"Really regretting using this service. And now I'm worried they're gonna try to surprise bill me even tho I'm on Medicaid and was promised the test was covered 100%. Just on their lack of email response alone is enough for the bad rating. Everything else aside. I will fight them in court if they try to send me a bill. I recommend anyone else trying to be scammed like this also report this business to the BBB and you're local medical investigations unit. You will win. They cannot "surprise bill you." Doesn't matter if it's 1 dollar or 330. So grimmy. I'd hate to have a conscious working in their billing dept. How you sleep at night? Mentally ill patients do not know what they are signing and to take advantage of that, since if they've been so resistant to medications they're needing this test then we can imagine mental illness is probably attached to that in some way, or physical suffering. Sick. Disgusting. Taking advantage of sick people. Who don't know the law or how to fight bullies and unlawful contracts."
"PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! My doctor recommended trying this to help see what medications would be useful for me. She told me not to worry as most insurance companies cover it. I received a bill of $330! Please do your research before accepting. The other reviews on this company are 100% true. I wish I would have known better."
"I had the same bad experience as many others. I was told by my doctor the test should be covered or only have my copay. I said if it was more than that, that I did not want the test. She assured me they would contact me if so. Yesterday I found a $330 bill in the mail (due today). I tried to call customer service and they were dismissive saying they didn't have to let me know if it was over $330 so I hung up. Seems like they know they are going to charge everyone that amount so why not say that upfront? I know I wouldn't have gone through with the test and I'm sure others wouldn't have either. Very shady and dishonest. Please be cautious when using this company."
"DO NOT DO THIS!!!!! My son and I both took the genesight test because it was medically necessary for figuring out medications and complications. The rep told our physician almost all patients get covered and those that don't usually pay "around $30" and if your deductible is met the cost "should be nothing", our $8,000 family deductible had already been met when we sent these tests in. They were supposed to call us if the bill was $330 or higher before they ran the tests and they never called us or gave us a warning. When I called they told me "sorry but they didn't have to call because we signed the disclosure allowing them to process the test regardless of price". They know they are screwing people and have no problem billing insurance $5,650 PER TEST!! We filed an appeal with Cigna. Cigna attempted to resolve with Assurex Health Inc and asked if they could recode so they could reprocess the claim to make it show it was medically necessary and Assurex Health Inc said no. The codes Assurex health uses says this test is NOT MEDICALLY NECESSARY. This company is nothing more than a SCAM!!!"
