"JRC is not exactly what I would call good customer serivce. The gym itself is nice (it was recently NOT 24 hours but about 2 or so months ago they opened it at the downtown location). My issue with them is the customer service with regards to emails, phone calls, just communication in general. Was told (emails to prove it) that I was not going to be charged a startup as well as they would wave the cancellation fee had I not decided to stay 1 full year (some sort of promotion for people to join that I bit on). Well that apparently is not true for either, the commincation was done through one of the downtown Juneau employees who still has not responded to any emails. The communication with the Anchorage accounting department was better but not great. They want specific things to show when moving and or change of address. And not just a cell phone bill or a new ID card. Were talking something that it takes multiple calls and emails to get. (Property tax, utilitiy bill). It takes a lot of jumping through different hoops to get to a successful outcome. Anyway, they decided to charge me $200 for a cancellation because I did not finish out my year. Quite honestly they are a money grab for a corporation. Overall, gym is nice, the locker rooms are nice, everything about the gym is good but dealing with "management" if thats what you want to call it has been awful. Most of the front desk workers do not have a clue what they are doing other than cleaning equipment which they do. 0.5 out of 5 stars for this place due strictly to the customer service and management personnel. If customer service existed within the corporation it would be a 4/5."
"I have been a member of the Juneau Racquet Club - Alaska Club since 2001 when we moved to Juneau. Along with the assistance of a physical therapist, the gym was extremely helpful for my recovery from a car injury. Over the years, I have been quite faithful to attend and reap the benefits of the gym except when I was of town. When I first started the membership, I recall the yearly cost was about $700. You asked for some information about current experiences. I am grateful for the availability of the facilities in Juneau. Here are some current thoughts about the Alaska Club: 1. It was clear that the windows, frames, walls, shades and surrounding areas were deteriorating. Trash and debris on the floor. Shades on the windows are very important for the rare sunny days! 2. The stationary bikes by the windows work "sort of" most of the time. 3. The women's locker room needs some consistent attention with debris on the floors, poorly draining sinks and unattended hygiene receptacles. 4. Not uncommon to see that staff are standing in front of the television set and watching the programs or at the check-in desk seriously engaged in iPhone-ology without a lot of attention to clients (like available towels, rips in the mats or machines that do not function). 5. The cost are becoming prohibitive - especially for older people on fixed incomes. Some accommodation for elders and those on known fixed incomes will be extremely useful to enhance the health of these populations. Thank you for these considerations. I will try to continue my membership for as long as I can."
"The downtown Juneau Alaska Club has probably the best view of any gym in Alaska if not all North America — looking out over Gastineau Channel. Rarely crowded, squeaky clean, and an excellent range of cardio and weight equipment."
"Been an on/off member for a number of years and I have to say that the most recent overall upgrade/remodel is fantastic! Not really doing weight training right now, but I can see the sparkle from the new equipment, feel unbounded by the open floor plan and the lighting helps with focus. The men's locker room is much brighter, cleaner and private with locking shower stalls. Great Job, Manager!"
"They were very kind to this traveler. It is located on the second floor behind the supermarket with a view of the bay. All the reviews from locals made me think I should skip this place, but the showers/sauna were clean. The workout machines were in working order. The weights were in place. They even have coffee, light weight snacks and a lounge to escape the rain."
