"Barker House is a cool place to live. The building itself is a historic landmark. The Barker House community is like a family. Everyone is warm and welcoming. The apartment is in the middle of downtown, so all bars, restaurants and shops are walking distance. The incline is walking distance as well. The manager is also really cool. She is a hard worker and does whatever she can to make sure all tenants are living comfortably. If you don't do dumb stuff and be a good neighbor, everything will be fine."

"I am the Resident Manager of Barker House. Barker House is a private, residential building with 48 lovely apartment units, right in the center of Manitou Springs, Colorado. Barker House IS NOT A HOTEL, and has not been a hotel for many, many years. Affordable housing is key to the mission of the company that owns this beautiful historic building. Our units are comfortable, airy and priced below market. We have a wonderful community, one where the residents know each other by name and are kind and helpful to each other. All utilities are included in the rent price and this is something incredibly wonderful in our modern day world, obsessed with pricing people out of decent, affordable residency. I have been a resident of Barker House for four very happy years, and the Resident Manager for over a year now and I know which residents were just 'trouble' and which were not. I have read some reviews that are completely false and purposefully malicious. I will not engage in malicious talk. Instead, I will say that it's too easy to be malicious and downright untruthful on the internet. It's too easy for people to defame others and paint themselves as victims. It is very one-sided, out of context, and untruthful. The truth is that the owner of Barker House is well-liked and appreciated, and Barker House is much sought-after. I am in constant communication with all our residents and no one has any issues with anybody, including the owner. Someone's dislike of a person does not entitle the person to defame someone's character, a building, or a community especially on line. We, as a group, are constantly striving for excellence. Our building is CLEAN, the carpets are CLEAN, the building is PEACEFUL, and everything WORKS. Yes, Barker House was built in 1872, she is the Grand Dame of Manitou Avenue. The exterior of the building was painted in the summer of 2017. Our courtyard is beautiful. Barker House is a lovely residential apartment building like no other in Manitou Springs, and all who live here absolutely love it!"

"I immediately felt good vibes from this place the first time I walked by it a few weeks ago. Ive eaten at the restaurant a few times since, met the owner and manager of the hotel and decided to move in. I now live here and I am so pleased so far. The owner has been amazing and most of the other tenants are great! The place is older and of course has the character of a place well lived in but its so worth staying somewhere I know I'm welcome and secure. It just has a charm all its own. The Barker House is a great place to live and what a location! Its close to everything in the heart of this magical town."
