"Been coming here for close to 10 years. It’s a Denver staple. Dan Dan, Potstickers and Xiao Long Bao are the must haves. If you want to help them and help yourself. Know what you want ahead of time. Make your order quantity worth their while. Don’t be obnoxious. Don’t ask to split your check. Don’t make a big mess. The whole point is to be quick and efficient, as there aren’t many seats and the hours of operation aren’t very long. It’s a small restaurant, with an even smaller staff that are keeping the tradition of Lao Wang alive and well. Have had nothing but positive experiences every time I’ve been there and our visitors from out of town would say the same. We’ll continue to be patrons as long as Lao Wang’s doors are open. Cheers. Edit: I was there when one of the one star reviewers from below wasn’t served for ordering too little. They were a group of 5 or 6 adult men sitting in the only space that can accommodate that many people in the middle of the restaurant as it opened at 6pm on a Saturday night. Momma Lao Wang was kind and was explaining that’s too small of an order especially for their group size. The guys explained they were on a dumpling tasting mission across Denver and didn’t want to increase their order. So the daughter in law came out from the kitchen and explained that it was insulting to Mom and they weren’t going to serve them. So in short. Don’t be these guys. Don’t come in and take up prime real estate in a restaurant that seats 20-25 people and is only open for a couple hours for dinner and try and order two or three items off the menu for your entire group. It was insulting and she was in the right. The table was filled by a family right after you left. And the restaurant was completely full by the time we finished our meal. It’s hysterical that you came on here to give them a 1 star review."
"The food is amazing definitely worth stopping and everything on the menu my favorite was the DanDan Noodles they were amazing"
"I struggle on this one. Could be so much better, but food small portions for the price - example, half full medium smaller sized bowl of DanDan Noodles $11 - and pretty lackluster atmosphere and service mean much better choices out there. On plus side, easy to find a seat when open, as so few go there any more and dumplings not the worst I have had in Denver."
"A staple of the Denver Asian food scene. Lao Wang's is a true hidden(?) gem. Yes, they have rules, but they're pretty reasonable - especially when you consider that the restaurant is often staffed by just Mrs. Wang herself. It's a small establishment, and the rules are there to keep her workload manageable and her tables moving. Order once, pay once, pretty simple. Personally, Mrs. Wang has been lovely to us. She did want us to order fast and pay fast, but the meal is so good and the service is fast and friendly, so there's really nothing to complain about for me. It's as authentic a Taiwanese dining experience as you can ask for, with all that entails. Know what you want ahead of time, bring an empty stomach, respect the rules, and you'll walk away incredibly satisfied. Best soup dumplings in Denver! The potstickers are also wonderful. We come at least once a year and are happy to do so."
"With so many dumpling places popping up nowadays, Lao Wang Noodle House on South Federal probably is one that predated all. The restaurants has been here before the millennium, endured the passing of namesake chef Lao Wang as well as the pandemic. Now Lao Wang's wife and her son carry on the legacy. The restaurant has a pretty simple menu, selling only the staples from all these years, such as potstickers, Xiao Long Bao, Dan Dan noodles, spicy wontons, wonton noodle soup, wonton soup, red chili dumplings, chicken cold noodles, cold noodles, with Taiwanese kimchi, five spice tofu and five spice braised beef shank as appetizers. The famed beef noodle soup was gone with the passage of Lao Wang. The dishes here are the nostalgic Taiwanese mainland style popular in Taiwan in the late 50s to 80s, which differentiated Lao Wang from the newcomers. I would say for many older generation Taiwanese, this was how potstickers, Xiao Long Bao, wonton and cold noodles tasted like in the yesteryear, simple and delicious and certainly a rare find in Denver. Here were their potstickers and Xiao Long Bao. Caution, be sure you abide by Mrs. Wang's rules as specified on the table. She was quite strict about these."
