About the Rainbow Falls
Rainbow Falls is a stunning park and tourist attraction located in Hilo, Hawaii, United States. Visitors are advised to monitor local surf and weather reports before their visit. The park features viewpoints of geologic and scenic interest along the Wailuku River, with two separate park areas to explore.
The Boiling Pots section of the park offers a series of large pools connected by underground flow or cascades, creating a unique bubbling effect. The exposed hexagonal columns lining the pools were formed by the slow cooling of basalt lava. The 80-foot Rainbow Falls is a highlight of the park, known for the rainbow that forms from its mist on many mornings. Legend has it that the cave beneath the waterfall was the home of Hina, mother of the demigod Maui.
Access to both park sections is available via Waiānuenue Avenue in downtown Hilo, with the Boiling Pots Area located at the end of Peʻepeʻe Falls Drive and the Rainbow Falls Area on Rainbow Drive. Don't miss the opportunity to experience the natural beauty and cultural significance of Rainbow Falls during your visit to Hawaii.
Reviews of Rainbow Falls
"This is a very easy waterfall to access. Beautiful spot, lots of picture opportunities. If you go a little past Rainbow falls to the right there is a local that sells fresh coconuts (coconut water) and other fruits, check him out as well!!"
"Gorgeous! Even in the rain! The plants are so incredibly beautiful and lush. You have to go check it out for yourself."
"Definitely a tourist location with a small parking lot for cars, but accommodates many medium and small tour buses, so it can be filled with more people than you might expect. With all of that said, I found it enjoyable."
"Great views of the falls. Not too bad a hike. 25 steps to reach the trail head to look down at the top of the falls and catch pools. Under the falls it looks like an extremely large lave tube running back under the falls. The falls are prohibited from getting into or onto but the views were awesome. Did manage to find the view for the namesake, Rainbow."
