Boiling Pots
About the Business
Boiling Pots is a popular tourist attraction located at 1766 Wailuku Drive in Hilo, Hawaii, United States. Visitors are advised to monitor local surf and weather reports before visiting the park. The park consists of two separate areas along the Wailuku River, each offering viewpoints of geologic and scenic interest.
The Boiling Pots area features a series of large pools connected by underground flow or cascades, with waters that appear to roll and bubble like they are boiling. The pools are lined with hexagonal columns formed by the slow cooling of basalt lava. The Rainbow Falls area is home to the 80-foot Rainbow Falls, known for the rainbow that forms from its mist on many mornings. Legend has it that the cave beneath the waterfall was the home of Hina, the mother of the demigod Maui.
Both sections of the park can be accessed via Waiānuenue Avenue in downtown Hilo, with the Boiling Pots Area located at the end of Peʻepeʻe Falls Drive and the Rainbow Falls Area on Rainbow Drive. Visitors can enjoy the natural beauty and cultural significance of these stunning attractions in Hilo, Hawaii.

"The ferocity of the falls will vary between a lazy house cat and an angry tiger depending on the amount of rain. Just check to see whether it has rained the last few days before coming if you wish to see more of the falls. While I wish we could get closer like you do in some places I can understand the precautions. There are bathrooms. Plenty of parking and it is handicapped accessible."
"Water was low despite a few days of rain. Park was nice, has restrooms and plenty of parking just not much to see unless they get ALOT more rain. No tickets needed. Free"
"We stopped to see Rainbow Falls and decided to take the short drive up here to see the boiling pots. Overall, not quite as scenic as I expected due to the overgrowth shielding some of the views. This was a nice stop though, good bathrooms, plenty of parking, easy walk up and free admission."
"Might as well visit this if you’re already planning to check out Rainbow Falls, but I would not say this is worth a trip on its own. Natural and mythological information about the boiling pots is posted, but aside from that the views are pretty obstructed and there is no trail to get closer to or different perspectives of the water. Decent sized parking lot, restroom onsite, no fee to park/enter, and very short and handicap accessible paved path to the overlook."
"There was s a great story about the legend/history of the area, be sure to read it. The river and the pools of water are just beautiful, but don't go down there it is fairly dangerous. Some fun huge trees there as well, great to walk around. Small, easy parking lot the, not too busy. So go to Rainbow falls if you are over there. Just beautiful."
