Sierra Motel

"Five stars for being a pet-friendly establishment and located next to the paved Portola Riverwalk and a challenging frisbee golf course (bring your discs and doggie waste bags). The riverwalk is accessible by a short walk west to North Beckwith Street and left (south) to East Riverside Avenue, or from behind the hotel to the west if you don't mind a little steep bushwacking. It is a peaceful, nicely maintained walkway beneath tall pines along the Feather River. The Sierra Motel harkens back to the vintage motels of days past, older but with easy check-in and parking in front of the room. Our room was quiet and comfy for one with two dogs, with microwave, fridge, coffee, and TV, but vintage rooms are for those who don't mind older rooms. The bathroom window gave a peekaboo view of the river walk and let in the fresh mountain air. The friendly front office staff provided a voucher for daily breakfast down the street at Nichole's Coffee Depot and Deli, a nice way to start the day. It's a reasonably priced location for day trips to the Portola Railroad Museum; Lake Davis; Graeagle and Sierra Hot Springs; or a scenic trip for lunch to historic Downieville over Gold Lake Highway from Graeagle and Hwy. 89. The stars are for pet-friendly, nice hospitality, and an excellent location next to the riverwalk and for local area day trips. Don't forget the canine waste bags for around the hotel, in-town and on the riverwalk—keep Portola beautiful."

"Comfortable and quaint. The room was very clean, and although the parking lot was full, it was a quiet stay. It came with a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The staff was super friendly, and breakfast was the highlight of our stay. They offer vouchers for free breakfast at Nicole's coffee depot, and it was hands down better than any lackluster continental breakfast I've had."

"Very quaint hotel. The staff were extremely friendly. The rooms are a bit dated, but that's not something I tend to focus on as much. The rooms were clean, and the bed was comfortable. Extra pillows and blankets in the closet if necessary, but I certain didn't need them in August. The AC in the room worked like a beast, maintaining a comfortable atmosphere. Would definitely stay here again."
