"We got there and were told it would be a 20-30 minute wait. We end up waiting almost an hour which was fine, we were willing to do that. We get seated and wait FIFTEEN minutes just for a waitress to come and tell us the kitchen closed. It was 6:30 and the kitchen wasn’t supposed to close till 8:30. No explanation was given, it wasn’t the weather. Wasted nearly an hour and a half for nothing. Poor service."
"Absolutely amazing place to eat and the scenery is incredible. Service is friendly and attentive as well. We came here for our honeymoon (staying at Royal Kona Resort) and we came to this restaurant multiple times (going back for our last dinner out here tonight). Tip: You have to try the poke nachos, trust me...they're something special. Whenever we make it out again, we will definitely come back. Mahalo!"
"We didn’t think the food would live up to the wonderful oceanfront view, but boy were we wrong. All our dishes were fantastic! We tried the big sushi/poke plate, fish tacos, shrimp salad, giant calamari, and sweet potato fries. Absolutely delicious!! BTW - Mai Tai’s and drinks were bomb!"
"I am very disappointed in the performance of today's team at Don the Beachcomber. My disabled mother and her caretaker waited for an hour for a prime rib plate and burger with the restaurant at 1/4 capacity. Food was sent out room temperature with the prime rib completely rare and 25 percent rubbery fat (not rendered). Extremely soggy sweet potatoes fries were sent and inedible. One of the sides was supposed to be a pop-over for which we waited again for an additional 10 minutes. Eventually the waiter said they were in the oven and brought out 2 dinner rolls. When asked for butter my disabled mother received 2 (frozen solid) butter pads. The burger came out cold and over cooked (figure that one out) and all of this to the tune of 85.00. The waiter (Desmond) seemed indifferent and short, and instead of trying to make the situation better the staff merely blew it off and passed the check on. Bringing the food home - this is what we're left with.. sad to say that after returning home we enjoyed Burger King that was in the refrigerator all night more - and I feel I'm doing Burger King a disservice."
"Relaxed, casual waterfront dining. Food and service was great. Our waitress, Jessica, was wonderful and took good care of us. We had Calamari Fritte, Tiger Eye Sushi (Ahi) Tempura Roll, and Seafood Corn Chowder with a Mai Tai Taster. The calamari is thick slices of calamari steak and not rings. Lightly breaded and tender, we really enjoyed it. The tempura sushi roll has a fairly small amount of ahi, but the favors were well balanced and it tasted great. The chowder is thick and chunky and not overly fishy tasting. We would get it again. We ended our meal with the Royal Mud Pie. Awesome and plenty to share for two people. The location was prefect to watch the beautiful sunset in Kailua-Kona. We highly recommend eating at Don the Beachcomber."
