The Coffee Shack

"Pretty much every Big Island travel video said we had to try the Coffee Shack, so on this trip we finally did. I am now kicking myself that I didn't go sooner. Because we knew it was a popular place we planned to get there early. When we got there at 7:20 AM (they open at 7:00) there were still a handful of empty seats. By the time our food arrived I could hear people being told it would be at least a 30 minute wait. The service was perfect. Our waiter was friendly and personable, but not hovering. Coffee was always topped off and anything we needed was handled promptly. Our order showed up quickly and everything was exactly as ordered. My husband ordered an omelet (ham & cheese, and they didn't skimp) and I got the papaya special (papaya boat w/ yogurt and granola, scrambled eggs w/cheese, and coconut pound cake). I decided to try the lilikoi cheesecake, a treat that everyone seems to be talking about. All I can say is WOW! Now, I love cheesecake, but this one deserves a category all its own. Last, but not least, is the view. You get an amazing view of the ocean and the greenery of the near property. It's breathtaking. I could have sat there all day, but I didn't want to keep everyone else waiting for their turn."

"amazing views and ultra kind service! expect a wait, or do a take away. The best thing about our experience was the lilikoi cheesecake. Everything else was just okay. We didn't get a chance to do any of the really good looking breakfast dishes but I think that's probably what the other reviews are on. The veggie sandwich was great, the white bread came on that was positioned as French sourdough was more like a really really nice white bread, which is great, but I want it now. The coffee was just okay. We've had much much better coffee on the island. That said the views from this location were fantastic. Very outstanding views. Go and enjoy the tourist experience. expect to wait for it and parking. again, the cashier staff was super kind and I hear the owners take really good care of their staff. extra star for that!"

"We went here for breakfast just before 9am and were seated right away. A few minutes later, people started lining up and wait was up to 1hr by the time we finished eating. Amazing views and the wind was refreshing. The food was tasty! I got Kona eggs with toast and you can choose either potatoes or rice with it and also add meat like bacon, Portuguese sausage, ham. The BLT was also good! We got 100% Kona coffee and they refill as needed which is a great perk. The lilikoi cheesecake was also pretty good. There are geckos throughout the restaurant which is kinda cool but also a little startling. It’s a bit pricey for breakfast food but you’re also getting the views with it. I think definitely worth it to check it out but would just recommend to go as early as possible to avoid waiting a long time."

"Excellent food, friendly service, delicious dessert and an absolutely fantastic view. It's worth waiting for a table outside and don't miss the passion fruit cheesecake or the macadamia nut pie for dessert! The ono fish sandwich was also excellent, I highly recommend !"

"The location is excellent, the food is good but not excellent. Let’s put it this way you can get similar food elsewhere but not the view. You’re coming here for the view with food. Not just the food. Parking is limited and it can take while to get seated. While the food was good, the pies, coffee and views are why you should visit. Clean restrooms was a bonus."
