"From check in to check out the stay met with my expectations. The front desk person was incredibly friendly, the beds and room comfortable. The lake out the window made for some great sunrise pictures. I'd definitely stay here again"
"Ive stayed at this place 3-4 times in the past 4-5 years. Usually 2-3 days but this last visit I stayed a week and thought it time to write a thorough review as this is one of those places that is just put right pleasant and has always been consistent with service....and the VIEW is just spectacular l, especially sunset and sunrise with a few clouds over the lake! This is a Great place to escape from civilization. Nestled on the mountainside at about 5500 feet with a gorgeous view of the lake that has year round fishing, and In the fall, it's not uncommon to see deer walking on the property. This Best Western has Super BIG...HUGE... rooms. Bigger than most other hotels. Super Friendly staff. Shelly is very pleasant and socialable. I think she is the front desk manager, but seems like she wears many hats, as most good (and few) workers do in any hotel. Good breakfast with lots of options. I stayed for a week during my last stay and everyday there was a hot waffle with lots of toppings, most days had eggs and/or Sausage patty, a couple days had A Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich and breakfast burritos and everyday had yogurt, eggs, a good variety of breads and cereal....plenty to fuel your morning. Seems they change up breakfast a bit when they know they have a work crew in for a few days that need a quick breakfast they can just heat and eat on the go. I tipped the hostess $1 each day I ate. If my husband was with me on this trip, I would have tipped $2 at each breakfast... hindsight, I should have left an extra $5 for her at the front desk when I checked out. She was really hustling to keep up with everyone and tried to steal a moment to ask about your morning or wish you safe travels. I only had my room serviced once during the week. This seems to be the industry standard for the past 5-6 years. I have been noticing hotels doing this everywhere from the Rockies to West Coast...all the way up to Alaska and thru Canada....Marriott, Choice hotels and Best Western. I personally like not having my room serviced everyday. It wastes time, water, resources and electricity to wash towels after one use when a guest stays for 2-3-4 days, and it's no problem to swap out wet towels if it was one of those days that warranted an extra shower. I did ask for extra coffee and creamer and trash bags every other day from the front desk, and I would just set my trash outside my door in the morning. I wish they kept a garbage can on each floor at the midway point, but maybe they have their reasons. The little interaction I had with housekeeping was pleasant when they serviced my room and left they extra coffee and creamer when asked. I left them an $8 dollar tip when I left with a note thanking them for doing a good job cleaning the rooms. I'm not sure what housekeepers make these days, but I'm sure they appreciate a few extra dollars. They are some of the many under appreciated service workers. The hot tub is seasonal at this mountainside hotel and was very pleasant and with a nice view of the mountains... nice and quiet. Be PREPARED for winter driving conditions in the Eastern Sierra from about October thru April... having been around this area for many years, I've seen it snow late into May. Only ONE dinner option in the casino next door in this quiet little resort area 20 miles from the main town area of Gardnerville/Minden, And NO FOOD DELIVERY, SO PLAN ACCORDINGLY. However there is a Family Dollar and a small market about 5 miles. Between the two you can pick up sandwich fixings, can foods and microwave meals. They have two vending machines, one with beverages and one well stocked with a wide variety of snacks: fruit/nut snack, candy bars, popcorn, cup of soup. There is a big gazebo in the corner of the property that has a fantastic view of the lake. During my stay, I observed some CalTrans guys using the charcoal BBQ cooking their dinner. The owners/managers obviously take care of the property. Seems every year, I notice something new added or improved upon. I Will definitely keep staying here!"
"A good place for short stay with just about sufficient breakfast options... No reason to complain but it's not a grand one. I was a bit unhappy with the small size towels. Overall, it's a well maintained hotel, good rooms with comfortable beds and fresh sheets. Nice view of the Topaz Lake."
"Pleasant and clean with great views of the lake. Spacious room, comfy bed. Folks at the desk were gracious and helpful. A good value and I would stay again when traveling Highway 395."
