"I have never had an operation of any kind nor have I had major medical issues. However, recently, I had to have emergency surgery to get my appendix removed. It was terrifying and the news hit me within minutes of being in the ER. Once I was transported to Valley Hospital, I was met with Dr. Colton Lee. He told me he’s done these kinds of surgeries many times and reassured me that everything would be okay. He had a very human side to him, cracking jokes and just being kind - not the stereotypical type of “doctor”. I asked where I was going to have scars and he showed me all the areas. He noticed a sadness in my face and asked if I was okay, I told him I know it sounded dumb but I have a belly piercing and I didn’t want it to get ruined because it would hurt too much to get it redone. He gave me a smile and told me he always cuts in certain places but that he’d try his hardest to preserve my piercing. He even took the time to speak with my mom and fiancé to reassure them that I’d be okay. As I was getting wheeled back to have the surgery, he asked me what I did for work and made small talk with me to ease my mind. The surgery happened at like 2am in the morning. When I awoke from surgery, he was the first one there to tell me everything went great. Then he surprised me with the fact that he saved my belly piercing! I know it sounds minute, but it really means a lot. When I finally fell asleep, he was the first person to greet me in the morning and check up on me. I really felt like he cared about me. Two weeks later I had a follow-up appointment with him at Las Vegas Surgical Center. He was the same kind, welcoming, person and was very patient with all my questions. I told him how impressed I was with his superb bedside manner and kind demeanor. He replied, “I had really good parents.” They raised an amazing young man and I’m grateful he saved my life. Fast forward to 2 months later. I’m healthy, happy, and everything feels normal again. To Colton Lee’s parents, thank you for raising a beautiful person, a hero."
