"I HATED this place the staff were abusive I had a therapist that Fat shame me when she’s fat herself. a staff member the name of Stacy cooperman is rude mean and verbally abusive. the other patience in the 17 and under section stole clothing and personal items. I got food poisoning there I was vomiting and had diarrhea from pink chicken and all they did was give me ginger ale."
"I had a horrible experience at this place..from the first day I was admitted I was scared. Patients stole my clothes from my room some of the staff were very rude especially the night staff. The showers were extremely cold and I could never get assistance when my water was having issues. The beds were super uncomfortable and I had lots of nightmares. I was admitted for having episodes after experiencing a chemical imbalance from Marijuana and I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. I was put on several different medications that altered my mood and weight and I was even more depressed than I was when I first checked in. There was a tech that lied and told me Justin Beiber was there to see me, there was another tech who slammed me down a few times while I was drugged. I was slapped in my face by another patient and the staff did absolutely nothing. I am so glad I survived this place .. I am a singer songwriter that gets a chance to live to inspire others with my story and music. I appreciate the few techs and staff that made my experience worth it. I definitely feel like there should of been an investigation a long time ago for mal practice and abuse. Today I am on no medication and I’ve been living my life 100% free of voices and episodes I’m really blessed to have survived the crazy things that went down here. No human should ever have to experience being mistreated in a facility that is suppose to nurse you back to good health. I’m so glad I finally got the courage to say something after all these years."
"I have had 2 lengthy stays at this hospital. The first time in 2011 it was amazing. I got the help I needed, the staff was great, very involved and supportive. But the second time I went in 2013, it was horrific. The entire staff (nurses, techs & doctors) were all different. They were very short staffed and everyone (except the doctors) seemed very overworked. Because of this, staff was very short and snappy with patients and the proper care could not be given. Dr. Okeke (I don't know if he still works there) was terrible. Very rude and condescending. He over medicates to dangerous levels. Because of the 10 pill anti-psychotic cocktail I was put on when I discharged myself, my brain stopped functioning properly, landing me in another treatment facility. Not to mention staff never gives you your calls or the property your loved ones bring you. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!"
"I was sent to this hospital after a suicide attempt. We got there around 3pm and I was not into the actual ward until 9pm. There were nearly no people waiting for an "interview" if you will, and we were stuck watching TV for over five hours. They gave us a small sack lunch with some not-so-good food. Once I got in my items were taken and I was shown to my room. The bed was hard as rock. The next day I woke up and had no idea what to do. I had to ask my roommate. They were completely failing at giving any instruction. I was not allowed to have my clothes without asking because I was too young but they never told me that, so the entire trip I stayed in the same clothes. The showers were ice cold and I ended up skipping two of them because of how miserable it was. The nurses wouldn't give me shampoo so I used my roommate's. I was forced to do activities despite getting miserably ill. The food was disgusting as well. As far as staff goes they were kind but not very helpful. My therapist while I was there was in face extremely helpful and though I don't remember her name I'd like to thank her. My parents ended up bailing me out early claiming we had to leave earlier than we did because I cried when they had to leave from visit. I highly advise you don't go here. You come out worse than you went in."
"I was there 6 times, never had an issue with anything, food was great, staff loved me. Sad to say I miss it in a way. I like it better than there than anywhere else. You get fed three meals a day, are provided everything, and you get snacks in between meals. They pay attention to your dietary needs and make sure that you feel welcome. I went there as a child 4 times for behavioral issues and while I don't remember much I still look back on it with good feelings. I went there recently twice for suicidal attempt and for cutting. I liked both instances and wished I had stayed even more. For those who don't like the temperature of the room, there's a thermostat on the wall near the door and the handle in the shower goes farther than you think. So if the water's cold, just turn it more. I really wish that I could go back. I have never felt more at peace with myself than inside of Montevista Hospital."
