"I underwent total knee replacement in early January of 2023 performed at Mayo Clinic, Rochester. While there was ample lead time prior to scheduled surgery, there was no pre operative preparation either given or administered. Upon completing the surgical procedure, there was no post operative care, no organized or supervised PT. I had to make my own arrangements for post operative assistance. I never recovered anything approaching full flexibility of my knee and most of those I have consulted since attribute this to a failure to undertake timely PT after surgery. I wrote a letter to Mayo's 'patient evaluation and concern' , but received no response. It is astonishing to me that Mayo continues to be rated highly for their orthopedics. As I said at the close of the letter I wrote and which was never answered, "Surgery is a procedure, but caring is a philosophy." While I think the surgery that was performed was adequate, I would not, based on my experience, recommend Mayo orthopedics to anyone. So much of the success of this procedure rests with carefully supervised, pre and post operative care which Mayo did not provide and for which they seem to take no responsibility."
"The physical therapists and facility are great. Wish I had not ever got my acl surgery though - two and a half years later and still not recovered even with constant PT. When I inquired as to why I was still weak and in pain it took months for the surgeon to talk to me other than to take more ibuprofen or see a pain specialist. Finally, he said my muscle and other parts of my knee had degeneration and that was a natural reaction to surgery….. I can understand this for a short time but apparently it’s a long term situation which I was not informed of prior. When I had a second opinion for my acl and slow recovery I was told it was set at an angle and slightly off what it should be. Things happen anywhere but disturbing to know a place with surgeons like mayo can make mistakes too."
"I thought I was getting the best. I had the same surgeon the MN Twins use. But they botched my surgery. They tricked me into letting a student do my nerve block and she accidentally stabbed me in the nerve. Now I lost nerve connection to my right thumb and index finger. Used to be a good basketball player and video gamer. Now I suck at both. It took six months of me asking about the damaged nerves before I got an appointment w a neurologist. Turns out he was a student too. Sent me out the door w a “sorry here’s another bill for $2k”. After they did the test to check my nerves, they confirmed that my pronator teres (wrist muscle) was getting 0 response from electricity. The doctor says “well this confirms you’re not faking it.” Great. Thanks. They offered no help. No follow up to see if it’s improving. Nothing. Total waste. If you’re going to go here. Make sure to double check that each person who works on you is not secretly a student. For all I know they swapped out my surgeon for a student too. If you want to let students practice on you then mayo is the place for you. If you want someone to permanently damage your nerve then make you wait 6 months just to tell you “whelp, I guess you aren’t faking it” then mayo is the place for you."
"Superb medical and sports medicine facility. Mayo Clinic teams up with professional Minnesota teams (NBA Timberwolves, WNBA Lynx) and provides state of the art sports medicine to professional athletes, and all sports related injuries, care, and rehab. A phenomenal facility, and care team."
"I visited this place in October 2017 when I visited Minneapolis. I myself am a doctor and I was really nice to see the facilities and services provided by this Healthcare system. This place is highly recommended. I have posted few pictures."
