"If you are here to do group activities DO NOT STAY at this hotel. There are no accommodations for a group or team to "hang out." If you set in their lobby make sure to whisper or the young employee's will begin a power trip, yet have nothing to say when you ask what the problem is. They claim they need a quiet hotel around 9pm, yet do not monitor the 2 floors or the slamming of doors on the opposite end of their lobby that were constant from midnight to 2am??!! While they offer their pool area for group items, they also list no food or drinks in the area or you will be fined. We asked to use their breakfast area, and were left with no, its policy? Then claim no other hotles in Detroit Lakes allow this....uhhh there are 12 hockey teams here, this weekend and this is the second hotel we are hearing numerous negative feedback on....so if your coming to DL...we recommend not here. Since management would like to state the cops were called I will add that yes they were called, but when they arrived they went to a random room-- not ours. As again NUMEROUS HOCKEY groups were at this hotel. The cops had a WONDERFUL conversation with that person and stated that the call was made, so they had to show up. When asked WHY they stopped at that particular room, the cop stated you have your door propped open so we could hear people, so we knocked to speak to you. The cop stated they were not loud, but had to come. They were very polite, 5 stars to the cops!! As for the POOL, none of our group used the pool, but again these "managers" were not asking what group was with whom ...they just wanted their antics to be taken with no questions asked. Again POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. As far as cursing, I did not. When confronted on why they did not stop any of the LOUD antics happening all over their hotel, it was a bold face lie from this manager. Also many did visit other hotels while there to hang out with other hockey families... and shocking they were loud, they were gathered eating food, and drinking adult beverages and or water or soda and NONE OF THOSE agencies had problems. And no it wasnt the Quality Inn as you kept throwing in a parents face as an excuse, it was hotels all over. Your response shows your lack of customer service. Oh and my room was left with the dirty towels on the bathroom floor so they would get picked up and washed prior to being left in the room again, as I stated when asking for new towels. All the trash was put in the bin and the pizza boxes were left right by the small trash container as when looking for an employee to throw that in a larger bin, no one was available. But again Customer Service seems to not be able to handle that they did not ask what group people were with, or whom the specific individual was you had the problem with. Also my family doesn't drink coffee, so we are not a part of your coffee bar, did not know you had one, but will say we did enjoy a cup of cranberry juice and orange juice for breakfast and dry cereal. Rooms were clean, but smell musty....thank goodness we travel with a diffuser. Breakfast had okay options, but tables, silverware and dishes were dirty. They did not refill many items either. Definitely recommend other accommodations."
"I don’t ever leave bad reviews but after this weekend, I needed to. I have never experienced such a completely unprofessional hotel and staff!! Incredibly rude and mean people working the desk. I wasn’t personally there at the time, but parents kicked out of lobby at 10pm and front desk called the cops because “visiting too loud” so went to private room and cops were called again, cops were really nice and couldn’t believe they were there! No housekeeping, asked for fresh towels and got a very mean response from person behind the desk. Communication from management is rude and sarcastic, trying to sound “nice”, but super condescending and not factual (you can read their response below and get an idea of their attitude and how they treat their customers…they should be ashamed of their behavior and the way they talk-down to their guests). Signs everywhere playing the victim card and they are understaffed so guests should be nicer and more patient (should tell their staff to be nicer). In a hospitality profession, you would think they would be kinder and more professional to their guests. Had a small store to buy food but hardly anything was in it and asked to buy a pizza and the guy at desk gave a snotty answer back so we decided not to buy. Outdated hotel and standard breakfast that wasn’t stocked, coffee was completely empty in the morning and no one behind the desk to monitor or refill, creamer was completely empty and was horrible. NEVER will stay there again and would never recommend. I don’t appreciate being treated like garbage and then they turn everything around, take no accountability, and lie. Stay at Holiday Inn down the road, way nicer and way better value for your money with actually nice staff and amenities."
"Not a place to go if you like warm personalities at the front desk. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Pool and hot tub here. Standard hotel breakfast.. bagels, waffle maker, and toppings. Across the street is a Casey's gas station. No elevator!!!"
"I don't know how this place has high marks on breakfast, because our experience was terrible. We came an hour before it closed, so 8:30, but there was barely any options. They were out of milk, so no cereal. The waffle maker was broken. They were out of biscuits so no biscuits and gravy. The bread was stale, so I ate terrible toast for me. Also be aware this place has a strict ($200 fine) on any food or beverage in the pool area. The workout area is nice. 2 newer treadmills, an elliptical and a weight machine."
"The hotel is short staffed but the front desk attendant was amazing. He tried to handle everything he could. If you are staying here, this is important to know and try and cut him a little slack. He made our stay great. There are no elevators so you will have to carry your luggage to the second floor. We did not do our research on this and it was a little problematic as we had somebody in our group that recently had heart surgery and couldn’t walk the steps. They were able to accommodate us with one of the three rooms being on the first floor. Our rooms were decent and clean. It’s located on the edge of town so you do have to drive to get to anything in Detroit Lakes. We were able to enjoy the pool and breakfast in the morning."
