I tried to fix it myself (which I have done in the past in other bathrooms) but there was a problem with how the builder installed the piece and it was too difficult for me to remove. A special tool was needed which he did not have, so he ordered the tool and came back over a couple days later for a fast, professional install and fix. A new water heater was ordered and promptly installed, and for SEVERAL HUNDRED dollars less than a couple of the "big" guys quoted us a few months earlier when we were looking for a preemptive replacement.
