"Worst Dr ever. Been going there for years. Have never been examined by the Doctor the entire time even though I ask every time to see him on the next visit. PA’s are nice and MA’s are nice. Front office staff are horrible except for billing. I highly recommend searching for another Doctor….."

"The AZ Family Medicine Sports Medicine shouldn’t be allowed to practice medicine. I have been a patient of theirs for the last couple of years and they have continually become more incompetent and their practices are bordering fraudulent. I have high blood pressure so I need to be seen annually for a physical to get my prescriptions renewed. I have been on the same medications for the past 15 years and have always just had a single yearly appointment, which is paid for under my insurance. This clinic changed “its” policy whereby they are saying I need to be seen every 6 months, plus they are requiring that you have an appointment before your labs are taken and another after your lab results are available. This means I have to be seen four times a year rather than once. They obviously instituted this policy so they can bill me for four appointments, of which my insurance will pay for one annual appointment. This is a fraudulent practice that was implemented to increase their revenue. This year I got them to agree to do a phone consult after my labs were returned so that I didn’t have to go back into the clinic during COVID. They didn’t want to do this but they finally agreed. After the consult they said they would send my prescription renewal to our pharmacy. Last week I was running low on my prescription so I called my pharmacy for a refill. I was told that they could not refill it because the doctor’s office said I needed to go in for an appointment. I called the clinic and Mary Jane, their medical assistant, said they would not release my prescription refill until I came in for a post lab appointment. I explained that I had done a phone consult for my post lab appointment. Mary Jane said that there wasn’t anything in my chart about the phone consult. I asked her to talk to the Physician’s Assistant (PA) and tell them about my phone consult but she refused to talk to them. I told her that I wanted to talk to my PA but she wouldn’t allow me to and said that I had to make an appointment before they would release my prescription. Medical Assistant’s like Mary Jane are not allowed to make these types of medical decisions, this is malpractice. I need my medication in order to prevent my blood pressure from increasing and possibly causing a stroke so I made an appointment. I explained this incident to the PA when I had my appointment but they didn’t seem to care. Dr Alex Onofrei is ultimately responsible for his staff and their action. I gave them a chance to correction their actions and it appears that they don’t care which leads me to believe “it’s all about the money”. Furthermore, they sent my prescription to the wrong pharmacy again. They have done this in the past 3 or 4 times, even though I have given them the name and address of my pharmacy. This clinic is so incompetent that I felt it was necessary to submit this information to the AZ Medical Board."

"This is really hard for me to write. I have been a patient with AZ Family Medicine/Sports Medicine for more that 10 years. In the beginning, I was thrilled with the office staff, Dr Alex and even the lab tech. Sadly over the past 2 years things have steadily gone downhill. IMPOSSIBLE to get an appointment with Dr Alex unless you wait weeks/months; or go on a waiting list. Multiple NP/PA visits; recently not even the same person; huge turnover. I was unable to establish a relationship with one person before they were gone. I am seeing a new provider today as a result. I am saddened; however, Dr Alex Onofrei is a WONDERFUL doctor and I will miss HIS treatment of me; but, I digress, I have missed his treatment of me for awhile now. Good luck!"

"I'm going to have to retract my review from earlier until further notice. The office just called me to tell me that Dr. Joan is no longer with the practice and that they had to reschedule my appointment that's in less than a week. This will be my 3rd doctor change over this year. I am very worried since my medical conditions are complex, so getting a new doctor on board is always nerve wracking. Hoping for the best with the new provider... Old review below. Dr. Joan Cacciola is one of the most caring and knowledgeable health car providers I have ever had. The office remembers you by name and helps with anything you need. Couldn't ask for more. Thank you Dr. Joan Cacciola and everyone at AZ Family Medicine and Sports Medicine for taking care of me!!!"
