"We picked Shelly Christy based on her website and positive reviews. I’d like to offer a different perspective based on our experience with her over a few months of marriage counseling. To start with the positive, Shelly's nice and if a person is going though a hard time in life, I can see how it could be helpful to talk to someone who offers a shoulder to cry on and grandmotherly reassurance. But that was not what we needed and felt our time and money was very misspent here. Over the period of several weeks/a few months, Shelly was not able to articulate any helpful professional guidance or information. She is a good listener but offered no helpful feedback. We worked through some workbooks which was not helpful at all to our issues-the books seemed more tailored to premarital counseling. On our most recent visit one of the only items of feedback from Shelly was something similar to “I hear you don’t feel loved by your husband-I think you need trauma therapy” which surprised me since I had worked though my own issues on and off for 20 years and individually am in a good place emotionally. I asked Shelly “can you please explain further?” To which she responded “you wouldn’t understand…”. So I sought out the best trauma therapist in Scottsdale hoping to discover something insightful that may help our marriage (or me personally). I have seen this trauma specialist for several weeks now and the conclusion is that my trauma is not playing a significant role in our marriage issues. This therapist I trust much more than Shelly because she offers clear, articulate professional critique and feedback, which is something significantly lacking from Shelly. Just overall disappointing experience with Shelly Christy and I would not recommend her as a therapist, as it was not helpful at all compared to the many therapists I’ve seen over the past 20-25 years."
