"It really wasn't the best school even in the 90s. The classrooms were outdated and the Administration were way too authoritarian to the point of overbearing overstepping their own boundaries. Unless you were athletic or a cheerleader you were bound to have issues. I was happy to get out of school. sure they're done a bunch of upgrading but the authoritarian principal has gotten even worse from what I hear. At least we can go off campus for lunch back in the day now you can't even do that just crazy"
"Hello, I was a student at Cortez High School for about 4 months when i came to live here in Arizona. Once, I attended Cortez High School they didn't accept nor wanted to respect my credits from Texas. They kicked me out & said i was falling behind in everything when i did all my work, did pretty well in test & quizes. They told my mom to drop me out & that they well never accept me an any other High School in Phoenix Arizona. I was honestly, very upset when this happened, beacuse I never got a complain about my education. I desided to go into a Charter School, but its not the same. Cortez High School from what I heard they only want A's & B's students when I was one of them. Accually the Charter School I go to have said that they send a lot of students from Cortez High School to Charter School's just to Cortez High School won't look "bad" in the GUHSD. I really don't recomend this school for student's that are new to the state or country."
"Hello, I am a current student at this high school. When I first promoted from middle school I was set on Apollo high school it was the high school I envisioned on going to now that I am at Cortez I wouldn't change it for the world. I absolutely love this school I spend hours and hours doing stuff there. I am around 12 clubs and I am a officer in 6 of them. Now yes we do have strict dress code but honestly it is a simple one just follow it and you will be fine there is no point in going on ranting about it if the handbook says not to wear it then you don't wear it? This school does have its troubles but it also has staff that are more than willing to help you with them if you actually come to them with the issue and not come to them with an attitude. If you are debating on sending your child to this school I recommend it."
"I am a current student. I would not recommend this school. I was currently punished for missing a class that I attended. I asked to serve a detention so I would not miss a class. They refuse. They would rather have their students miss a days worth of class and sit in a room to do nothing than come in on a Saturday. As a student I find this rather unfair. I attend school to learn, not to sit in the classroom all day for nothing."
