"Most aspects of this school are great - the exception is the administrative staff, especially the counseling staff (or at least the one my children are assigned to) - she is unaccessible, makes appoinments then doesn't keep them, is impossible to get a hold of on the phone, refuses to cooperate or help with schedule changes, even when it is the school's fault. In addition, students are discouraged from coming to see their counselor and are told they must come before school, during lunch or after school (there is always a long wait before school and at lunch, so most students aren't able to see their counselor, and after school, the counseling office closes at 3:20pm, 5 minutes after school is out - before most students can even get to the office from their last class). As a parent I find extremely frustrating that I am never able to leave a message if I need to speak with my children's counselor - the staff answering the phones will not take a message - they tell you to call back - and if you do actually get someone who will take a message, it is a waste of time, as you don't get a call back and only get weak excuses when you go in in-person to follow up. Other administrative staff are equally incompetenct and/or rude. The support person in the athletics department is consistently clueless and even the simplest request is met with a spaced out response and there is little confidence that whatever interaction or request made is understood. The person who runs the attendance office is often rude and makes disparaging comments about the teaching staff. So, what is good about the school - it encourages parent involvement and student accountability, and somehow maintains an "A" rating despite quite a few long-term teachers who are burned out and have no interest in teaching and are just waiting out retirement. Luckily, there are other teachers who balance that out with enthusiasm, challenging classes and support learning at the highest level."
