"After dedicating two nights a week for four years I am a very qualified electrician. I have so many opportunities at my finger tips because of the apprenticeship. As an IBEW Journeyman, my family has health, vision and dental insurance. I have two pensions, an annuity and to top it all off, a great hourly wage. Four years as an apprentice is absolutely worth the pay off. Yeah, sometimes you’ll work people who make rude remarks but what job doesn’t have that? Don’t let that stop you from getting into a career that has the potential to make six figures a year WITH NO STUDENT DEBT."
"Okay so I will say that they are pretty clear about how a lot of the program will go, but what they are not clear about is how the work environment will be. This apprenticeship has the potential to be so much better. The director is very upfront and direct about her expectations for each person. The thing about that is although I agree that her being a women in that position, yes it makes sense for her to be blunt about things and get right to the point, but it is completely unnecessary for her to be so extra with that type of mentality to the point where nobody enjoys when she is around. The work environment is like that of a frat house with a bunch of boys. A lot of these guys are older and act like highschool kids. The first foreman I had was 28 at the time which was younger than me, but he was a military guy so one would think he would be professional. No this individual was some piece of work and was a good example of how most of the work force is. Constant flirting with women at TMC hospital who were clearly just being nice and then making extremely nasty remarks to me about said women. Now I am a straight male so I understand to some degree, but we are at work not some frat party. After giving concern to the director that was it, no more apprenticeship for me. After months of giving so much of my time to this establishment they don't even try to make it work. If I were a female I would be completely discouraged from even attempting to apply here. If you are considering doing a trade then I would look else where as AZ is one of the lowest paying areas for electrical workers. Starting of at $17.00 an hour with having to go to school and deal with all that unprofessional highscool machoman mentality is really something I think youd have to be either desperate to do or you really dont want to go to college. Do yourself a favor and do something else or go to a different school and local."
"Made me do an unpaid “boot camp” to qualify me for the apprenticeship. This place deserves an equal opportunity investigation. Also they pay apprentices less than what in n out pays. (17/hr) This place is awful and the IBEW should be ashamed. Do not work here"
"a lot to learn but good atmosphere. Help me find a good job."
"The union is where you become a journey man"
