"I was very hopefully going into this office to see Dr. Michelle de Geest after seeing positive things online. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience as others have stated. In fact, I have had an extremely horrible and disgusting experiences here. As a young woman, I went in for my first pap smear ever and was barely taken seriously. After my pap smear, some serious issues had been detected and I was never called about them. Only notified on the portal app. I find that insensitive and unprofessional. I had another appointment to discuss these serious health concerning issues. I was treated with disrespect and was dismissed with everything I said and expressed. Again, as a young woman, this is all very stressful, scary, and worrying. To be dismissed repeatedly is not okay. For a procedure, I had asked for a singular pain medication pill so I could tolerate the pain. I explained that I’ve had similar procedures before that were so painful, I threw up. Dr. de Geest told me that “it was inappropriate” to ask for said medication (again, one singular pill) and that she would never be giving me a narcotic. First of all, how distasteful. The tone and word usage in that makes me sound like some random person off the street looking to abuse a SINGULAR PILL painkiller, after exposing my history with pain. I feel absolutely disgusted with this clinic and I hope that no one has to experience this with any clinic ever."
"With my insurance changing less than 4 weeks before I was due to deliver my son, I was so nervous to establish care. Dr. Lee, Dr. Powers, and Dr. Jackson are hands down amazing! Dr. Jackson performed my c-section; he was patient and reassured me through the entire surgery. He has probably the best bedside manner I’ve ever encountered that is genuine! Dr. Lee & Dr. Powers game planned to make sure my baby made his arrival safely after I started throwing high blood pressure out of no where. I thought it was a fluke, but without their attentive care I would’ve never known. Maricopa OBGYN is amazing."
"My Wife and I really regret coming to this office. After telling them multiple times beforehand, NOT to send us results on the gender of our baby, (Even giving them a different email to send to) THEY STILL DID. This absolutely ruined any and all plans that we had for a reveal that would have included both of our families. we have had to find different routes to take for "surprising" our relatives now, this stressing out my pregnant wife, and also myself. I called and spoke to a manager, and she was very apologetic, which is appreciated. Nonetheless, she explained how she has "no idea" how results got sent to us. Very, Very upset and will be looking to move offices for my Wife"
"Ladies, I strongly advise against choosing this healthcare facility, especially if you are a woman of color or someone who may be perceived as such. My experience here was deeply dehumanizing. Early this year, I began experiencing irregular bleeding, having about two periods a month, accompanied by severe hormonal migraines. I requested an ultrasound, but my first appointment with Dr. Urig was disheartening. He dismissed my concerns, stating that nothing could change in just a few months, despite my previous ultrasound for a different condition. Even though I emphasized that this was abnormal for me and that I was actively trying to get pregnant, Dr. Urig remained indifferent. I persisted in asking for an ultrasound, and eventually, he reluctantly agreed but prescribed only one month of birth control to "regulate" my cycle. Still, he refused the ultrasound. I left the appointment feeling defeated, and the medication did not work. I suffered for months. When I couldn't endure the symptoms any longer, I returned, this time requesting a female doctor. Again, my request for an ultrasound was denied, but following the advice of a medical friend, I insisted. Eventually, they scheduled me for a week out, and the ultrasound revealed a uterine polyp. During my follow-up appointment with a different doctor, I expressed my frustrations, and she apologized. However, this apology couldn't erase the nearly ten months of unnecessary suffering and the precious time wasted in my pursuit of pregnancy. These doctors didn't treat me as a human being; they saw me as a person of color without deserving humanity. Despite my high risk for hormonal cancers, they were indifferent even though I visit Mayo Clinic regularly every 3-6 months for breast exams, which they know about. When I complained about the lack of response for scheduling surgery to remove the polyp, the office manager, Donna, called me and victim-blamed me, even saying that the doctors at this facility often assumed women in their 40s were going through menopause. I was astounded by her response and the realization that I was clearly facing discrimination. My husband, who is white, had attended appointments with me at Maricopa OB before this ordeal, and the difference in how I was treated was striking. I subsequently switched to another OBGYN, and the stark contrast in treatment was undeniable. The new facility, Southwest Contemporary, recommended by a friend, treated me with compassion and care, promptly scheduling my surgery. I'm finally on the path to recovery, thanks to Southwest Contemporary, and not Maricopa OB."
"This is specifically for the Maternal Fetal Medicine side. I would leave 0 stars if i could. I had to drive over an hour to this location as this is the location my OBGYN uses for anatomy scans. I called ahead of time to see if my children were allowed in the room so they could feel a part of the process and was told yes. I drove over an hour just to be met at the door and be told only 1 person is allowed in the room. I advised them I called this morning and was told I could and they said it is against their policy. There was no other patients even in there and the receptionist claimed to be the manager and was rude stating several times I could just reschedule after telling her many times I drove over an hour to be there. I would never treat a patient like I was treated. I would have gone above and beyond to create the best experience possible. She could have offered to rotate out my children so they could still feel a part of it but I was just met with absolute TERRIBLE customer service."
