Sonder The Monarch

"We just finished our first trip to Phoenix / Scottsdale and this hotel was exactly what we needed! We traveled with our 2 year old son and booked the larger option with a living room + king bed. We ended up with two patios on the first floor with a view of great trees and the small pool. We also had a tiled shower and a separate bath tub. The room was perfect and exceeded our expectations and included a pack-n-play for our son. Next, the pools. The small pool wasn’t used but the large main pool was incredible!!! Great views with sunshine all day. The pool bar was open most days, too. We did a couple later night dips in the hottub which was super enjoyable. Finally, the location. SUPERB. Literally walked across the parking lot and had access to all the fun things available in Old Town Scottsdale. We also walked over to Scottsdale Stadium to catch a spring training baseball game with the SF Giants. This is our third Sonder stay and would 100% recommend Sonder. We’d also 100% recommend this particular property despite the harsh reviews from some."

"Wanted to like this hotel… but way too many issues. The room cleanliness was a big problem. The shower wasn’t cleaned when we got into the room. Found an awful looking stain on the duvet on our second night. Also, the hotel neglected to mention they are across the street from a **fire station!** About once per hour we had an ambulance with full sirens roaring past our room, all night long. The walls are very thin and don’t offer much soundproofing. Don’t get a room in section 3! Also, I have serious concerns about the tap water. There is a strong metallic taste in it I don’t recognize and makes it taste awful. This is a 50 year-old building and was built 13 years before Arizona banned lead pipes… I strongly recommend against using it."

"We loved it! The location was perfect for old town Scottsdale. We could walk everywhere we wanted to go. The pool area was clean and the bar staff were awesome. Connor, the pool bar manager, took great care of us and mixed some great drinks. The room was exactly what we needed. It was clean and nice. The bathroom counter was a little small but we made it work. For the money, can’t be beat. We will be back."

"I loved staying here! The location was fantastic, so close to everyone and everything downtown Scottsdale has to offer. The pool/hot tub and bar by the pool was wonderful! The wait staff were fantastic and the food was delicious! I also liked the keyless entry! I will definitely be back. The picture is a view from our patio area."

"This is a 3-star, almost self-service hotel so don't expect a red carpet treatment. For the price, the location, relative cleanliness of the room, and some amenities with the pool, it is a decent hotel. And if you are an introvert who doesn't want to be bothered by the cleaning staff (or any staff) for that matter, this is a great option - because you won't see many staff around. Even the check-in/checkout process can be completely online. They give you a code which is the key to your room and everything else. We got the deluxe room. It was huge and worth the extra $40. The regular rooms are tiny in comparison. The best part of the hotel is its proximity to the old town and civic center. You're literally steps away from the action."
