Corbin Art Center 507 West 7th Avenue, Spokane, WA 99204
About the Business
The Corbin Art Center, located at 507 West 7th Avenue in Spokane, Washington, has been providing affordable and high-quality fine arts and crafts programs for both children and adults for over fifty years. The programs offered are designed to promote cognitive, creative, and personal growth, with small class sizes ensuring individual attention from instructors.
Originally operated by Washington State University as the Spokane Art Center in the 1950s, the institution was later renamed the Corbin Art Center in the early 1970s. Housed in the historic D.C. Corbin House, a significant landmark in the Marycliff-Cliff Park Historic District, the Center offers a creative environment for cultural arts education.
The D.C. Corbin House, designed in the Colonial Revival style by renowned architect Kirtland Cutter, was completed in 1898 for Daniel Chase Corbin, a pioneer in transportation and business ventures in the Inland Northwest. Renovation projects in the 1990s restored the building to its former glory, with support from various organizations and foundations.
The City of Spokane Parks and Recreation Department, along with other supporters, have demonstrated a strong commitment to preserving and enhancing the site for year-round cultural programs and services in the Spokane community and the Northwest region. The D.C. Corbin House is now part of Edwidge Woldson Park, honoring a community contributor.
