"Team Rhino Gracie Academy is the epitome of jiu jitsu! Thank you to Ms. Owen for allowing me to come in and train while visiting for work. The instruction is top notch, the facility is state of the art and clean, and the instructors are humble, down-to-earth and very welcoming. I had an excellent time training with this team and learning their techniques. I truly enjoy being a practitioner of this sport and being able to meet great people while traveling for work. Thank you Team Rhino Gracie Jiu-Jitsu!"
"After three months of attending Team Rhino classes, I have to say that I cannot see myself going anywhere else. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The instructors know everyone by name and the gym has a great reputation. The pricing is fair and it feels like I am getting every penny worth out of it. One of the things I greatly respect about this gym and it's instructors is that they promote safety and technicality above all else. If you want to compete, that is of course an option, but I have never felt like anyone is being pressured to compete. I also love the fact that they lay out exactly what you need to do to promote to the next belt and all of the stripes in between. And on top of that, they genuinely want you to test and promote and there is no negative stigma about asking to test for your next stripe. Again, I cannot see myself training anywhere else and will be with this gym for the foreseeable future."
"Team Rhino was the first jiu jitsu gym I walked into, and I immediately fell in love. Keith Owen, and Derek were great examples of what an instructor should be in the jiu jitsu space. I developed from a brand-new white belt to a mostly competent purple belt in my time at Team Rhino, being there for nearly four years. Unfortunately, since Keith’s passing things dramatically changed at the gym. While they have done their best to adapt to the new circumstances, it has not been met well. I was physically attacked by a fellow student because he did not like a rash guard, I wore under my gi. As we had no head coach still several months after Keith’s passing, I did not feel comfortable reaching out to anyone to discuss what happened. The next week this same student threatened me, yelling across the gym with a room full of people able to hear. I then decided it was time to reach out. There was no disciplinary action taken towards this student and he continues to teach kids classes to this day. I would not feel comfortable having my child train under people so unhinged they resort to violence in a space that is supposed to be about protecting yourself from others. In June I began to train at another gym during the days Team Rhino did not offer classes, as a result I have now been kicked out of Team Rhino because I would visit another gym. Four years I have attended Team Rhino and tried to be a positive friendly face within the gym. I personally helped several students get belts because Team Rhino uses a belt testing that has you complete moves like a kata. I also over a dozen times taught “blue belt” material to fellow students when instructors did not feel like teaching and instead asked me. There was no discussion, no warning, I was pulled from the start of a class and told to leave. When I tried to tell someone why I was leaving I was told to leave immediately. If you are looking for a jiu jitsu gym that has no head coach and allows students to attack other students without any care, this is a fantastic place to train. It is unfortunate to see the direction the gym I started at and invested so much of my time into has gone. I imagined continuing through to my blackbelt through Team Rhino, instead I get punished for trying to improve and bring that back to the gym. Short Summary: If you are looking for a warm friendly place to train, find another gym. If you are looking to enroll your child into a place to learn how to protect themselves, build confidence, and to deal with bullies, find another gym. Kids class is on some days led by a man who will attack others without cause."
"This is a great gym that harbors a really great culture and is super family friendly. The mat space is huge and very clean. I'm so glad we found this gym. After moving to this area and coming from a Gracie gym it was an easy transition being this is a Pedro Sauer affiliate gym."
