"A week or two ago, my cat got a wound on his back, and throughout that time, I had to go to multiple vets, but none of them compared to the people at Family Pet Hospital. They have treated my cat with the best care and also fit me in on short notice. Family Pet Hospital of Shawnee will be the only place I take my cat from now on."
"Recently lost my dog I came here with my dog dying on my arms they fully accepted me in even tho my little son didn’t make it these people are really thoughtful and care about helping your little members thank you for the letter this really means a lot as I didn’t handle his loss well but I for real appreciate you guys for being caring and understanding. You guys go above and beyond❤️"
"We've taken our dogs to them for years now. They saved our dog's life when she got septic. Good people, they know what they're doing, and try to work things out when money's tight."
"I hand delivered the letter below on 11/8/23 and received no response, so I emailed it on 11/19/23. I have received no response as of 12/6/23 from Dr. McDermott or Dr. Scott. I am writing to let you know my significant concerns. My beloved 14-year-old Sarge underwent dental surgery with Dr. McDermott on 10/4/23. At the time, I expressed my concern for the procedure due to his advanced years and end stages of bladder cancer. She assured me that she had performed similar procedures on dogs of advanced age. Sarge came through the procedure without complications. The next day, he would not eat and experienced vomiting and diarrhea. I called and the vet techs responded. Dr. Rueb was the vet on duty because Dr. McDermott was not available. He prescribed FortiFlora SA packets and Diawin tablets on 10/6/23. It was difficult to get Sarge to take because of his lack of eating, but we finished the regime, and his stomach condition did resolve, but he was much weakened and started collapsing upon getting up on 10/11/23. On 10/12/23, Sarge had an appointment with Dr. Rueb for lab work and to address the collapse issue. Dr. Rueb called me later that day with the lab results. They showed a significant decline, and he recommended euthanasia, so 8 days after the dental surgery Dr. McDermott assured me that Sarge’s lab work showed he was stable enough to endure. Dr. McDermott did not consult with me during any of the numerous phone calls that I made with the above concerns. Dr. Van Zandt would have. Sarge died at home Monday night. I am riddled with the guilt of putting him through the undue stress of a surgery that weakened him unnecessarily for his final days. *I am giving 3 stars because the dental surgery was successful. My concern is should Sarge have been put through the stress of the procedure and also no response to my letter/email."
"So I am not a client of theirs anymore. I left Shawnee last summer. I enjoyed them the few times I brought my cats to them while I lived in Shawnee. Unfortunately, one of my cats passed away last October due to a blockage. I wanted to confront/question the vets who worked on him (where I live), so I spoke with the vets here to get some insight before doing so. They were extremely understanding and answered every question I had to the best of their ability (without seeing the situation themselves). I received a sympathy card in the mail a week or two later. I did not expect this as I'm no longer a client of theirs. It was a very sweet thing to do and as I am still grieving the loss of my cat, the letter with handwritten sympathies from various staff there made me feel happier and like they genuinely cared. I wish I could still see them as my primary vet for my other cat, but I just don't live in the Johnson County area anymore. I've attached a picture of my boy that passed that you guys had seen a few times. What you guys did really meant a lot to me and makes you guys stand out significantly from every other vet I've been to. Thank you again"
