"the “care” they were providing at the gold country fair was APPALLING. large animals stuffed into small tanks or cohabitation with aggressive species. all aquatic animals are kept in water troughs and have absolutely no filtration. the snapping turtle had no cover so small children could easily get their hands bitten off. the turtles had a visible layer of slime and no proper resting places. they had a very large alligator that seemed very out of it, almost sedated. the macaw was ripping out his feathers and trying to threaten the people because everyone was yelling and pointing at him. not a single uvb bulb in sight. the employees were apathetic and not paying attention to any animals. unethical and irresponsible."
"Awesomely fun time! Knowledgeable staff! Tons of amazing critters to check out on the expansive gorgeous grounds!! Highly recommend!!"
"their lizards at the sacramento county fair looked sad and unhealthy. i own a bearded dragon and off the bat i noticed that the setup was way too small, they had a red light, AND two bearded dragons housed together. anyone who owns a bearded dragon knows that this is improper care and a reptile conservatory should do a lot better"
"Brad is an expert on all things reptile. I was lucky enough to visit a couple of weeks ago and received a graduate level course education in the 2.5 hours I was there shadowing him while he took care of his extensive menagerie. If you get the opportunity to visit or better yet, go to one of his traveling exhibitions, don't miss out. You can thank me later."
"As a reptile keeper, and wildlife educator with years or experience I was DISGUSTED at the display tanks at the Clark County Fair. Most of the animals didn’t have access to water (a bare minimum for animal welfare laws) tanks were far too small, and improper lighting for many of the animals which can lead to long term health issues. I understand they are only at the fair for a week and they can’t have their permanent enclosures on display (which I hope to god they have at the “sanctuary”) but is it too much to ask to offer at least enough room for the animals to turn around, a place to hide and get a drink of water whIle being in a high stress environment? Having worked in the exotic veterinary field in the past most animals are dehydrated even with a water dish offered. Yes desert animals need water too. I think wildlife education is one of the most powerful tools for conservation and is my life’s passion, but we shouldn’t be doing it at the animals expense. Do better."
