"I don't know if this restaurant has changed owners in the last 2-3 years due to the pandemic or some other reason, but it shows in the food quality. Just a few years ago you could walk in spend $13, get a 32oz sweet & sour chicken that was moist on the inside, crispy outside, and amazing sweet & sour sauce, the pork fried rice was delicious, filling, and typically get a 24 or 32oz to go container, and you'd get a 12oz container of very moist, delicious bbq pork.. tonight when I ordered it cost me $16. What I got was a maybe 4oz container of bbq pork that is is dry, almost flavorless, a 12oz rice that is dry and bland, and an 8oz container of sweet & sour chicken that tastes like it was fried hours ago in oil that hasn't been filtered or changed in a week. Unfortunate to see a place that has local newspaper 'best in valley' awards by the entrance fall from grace so badly.. I don't know that I'll go back anytime soon... Barely a 1 star... Service is ok. atmosphere is dated..."
"Went here as part of a group meal. I use a walker so couldn't access the restaurant from the front or one of the sides. There is a ramp on one side to use and a doorbell. Had to press the doorbell several times before we were admitted. Once inside my group of about 40 was in one room . Tables were set up nicely. There were 2 of us with walkers. We both wanted to keep them by us, several people tried to move them. Explained it this way, how would you like your legs being put across the room? The food was plentiful and tasted really good and the price was reasonable. Avg $13-14 a person. They didn't have have Coffee in stock, they had run out. The server did an excellent job with a smile on her face."
"The food is great! People serving are pleasant and hospitable. The atmosphere is authentic and clean. I would recommend this to my friends and anyone looking for great Chinese food. Management also recognizes Veterans and gives discounts accordingly. That makes me proud of them for how they treat our Veterans so well. Very good prices and variety of specials each day of each week, lunch and dinner are excellent!!"
"I persuaded the officers of the volunteer organization to which I belong to hold their officers' meeting here once a month, so I can be assured to taste their Almond Fried Chicken on a regular basis. It wasn't a hard sell; dining "family-style" at a Chinese-American restaurant was much easier on the budget than our previous choices, and it tasted better, too. The food is standard Chinese-American fare done right-- fresh, in copious quantities, and at a fair price. The aforementioned Almond Fried Chicken is my favorite, though its sauce is dangerously delicious. The atmosphere is not outstanding, and hasn't seen much updating, but the dining room seems clean and in well repair. The dining room is well-lit and often quite crowded with happy diners. Our group has been sometimes disappointed when we haven't been able to get a more secluded situation, but it hasn't deterred us from coming. The waitstaff is attentive and very friendly. Our group has become regulars now, so we get to banter and feel special. I will add one personal caveat, though-- when ordering take-out for my own family, I have had several errors on the order. Be sure to check your order before leaving the restaurant."
"We decided to finally try this for the first time tonight as we've heard a lot of folks talk about this place through social media. We ordered on their website for pick-up and the total wait time from getting there to food pick up was around 12 minutes. Definitely fast and good service, and I can't really say the food was bad - it just left a lot to be desired. Fried rice was extremely bland which was a serious letdown. The chow mein was decent, the sweet and sour chicken wasn't crisp/soft in some bites but the sauce was decent. Honestly the best dish was the Mu Shu Pork - would recommend that for sure from a presentation and taste standpoint. Salem is a very weird city in the sense that there is no defact-o Chinese restaurant anymore these days. All have their own singular dish that's great, and everything else is mediocre - average - food. Lum-Yuen is another example of that. Solid 3 star. ⭐⭐⭐"
