Golden Crown Restaurant 365 Liberty Street Northeast, Salem, OR 97301

"My wife and I tried the Golden Crown Chinese Restaurant on 365 Liberty St. NE Salem on a Friday about 5pm. Only a few tables were occupied at that time. The waitress took our order quickly. We both ordered the combo 2, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Pork Chow Mein, Pork Fried Rice ($13.00 each). We also got an order for Almond Fried Chicken ($13.75). My wife chose the salad and I did the wonton soup (or egg flour soup the other option). The salad was cold. The only thing going for it. A teaspoon of salad dressing and strictly lettuce that was lacking a green color with bread squares, not croutons. My wanton soup which I normally don’t order was decent. I usually get hot and sour but that was not an option, so I lack a comparison value. This was quickly served. Before we had a chance to finish the soup and salad, our meal was served, piping hot (temperature). The chow mein was prepared with fresh vegetables, not over cooked, not gooey, absolutely perfect like we have not had in a long while. The sweet and sour chicken again was perfect, nicely battered, crispy but not overdone. No old oil flavor taste. The rice was a little dry requiring some sauce, like soy sauce, but this was a minor issue. The almond fried chicken and gravy was tasty and nicely prepared. We could not identify the flavor of the gravy. The proportions were plentiful, and we took a go box (3) for what we could not finish that night. About 5:30, a total of 5-6 tables were filled and the waitress kept busy taking orders and keeping the customers happy, almost overwhelmed. When we go to dinner, it’s to relax so slight delays don’t bother us. I think we found our go to Chinese restaurant in Salem."

"4 years ago the food may have been good -the hot and Sour Soup is not - it is a globe mess with no flavor. kung Pao chicken. chicken was tough. vegie stringy. no flavor. no spice. Thought I was getting lunch and was given entree. way too much of a bad thing.,"
