"ZERO STARS! I’ve seen 4 psych doctors in the last ten years that have all said, how has this place not been shut down by the State. Patients are pumped full of seizure meds for various mental issues and then released while still in psychosis. This place is some 1900s scary psych ward ish. They have a room with one concrete slab of a bed in middle of the room with a large metal door that locks you in with small 6”x6” window to see through and it’s barely at eye level. It’s so inhumane. I wish this place on no one with any kind of mental disability."
"I was here in this facility in September of 2023. One thing I do have to say the little girls like they had this girl who was there and she was there for a while like at that time it was 3 months! I felt bad cause she was quiet and no one ever asked her how she was. I had too and when i left she was so sad. Any who no one asked me if i was okay the time i was there no one cared about us all it was, was that we were forced to cooperate or get an extra day added on so instead of actually trying to better myself i was trying to participate to go home on time! Now I'm here in February 2024 going through the same stuff I've tried to get better but its definitely got worse and no, i'm not saying its ya'll fault but i wish someone cared for me the way they acted there was the same way my family treats me, horribly! I really wish they could of helped me cope with this! Ouu plus the staff had bad attitudes for real mad at people when they have to use the bathroom or have a bad attitude when we do something! Its sad."
"I would not recommend this place for your child. My child was sent here after being involuntarily admitted. I understand privacy concerns, but this place has such a lack of communication that they apparently can’t even communicate with each other. My 12 year old who in the words of the doctor assigned to him is “very child-like” was put into a choke hold by a 15 year old one morning and it was never reported to me until he told me about it himself. When I called the nurse to ask about it, she hadn’t even heard of this happening because the techs never reported it to her! After it was reported, I was told the older boy was “just playing.” My child was not under the impression he was playing. Harassment isn’t defined by its intent, it is defined by its impact. Besides that, my child informed me that the floor techs assigned to watch them were cursing at the kids. If a child is sent there for help and rehabilitation, why would you curse at them and treat them badly? I’m giving 2 stars because their receptionist Monica was so nice and the social worker Bethany was great as well and my son did like the doctor who treated him. Hopefully we will not need services like this again but if we ever do, I’ll make sure he goes to a place more suited to children."
"i was involuntarily admitted to vermillion two years ago after a suicide attempt, as i was 17 at the time, and i really have to say this facility is terrible. there was only two nurses that genuinely cared about the wellbeings of the kids here. there was a 13 year old girl with special needs who screamed and cried asking for the therapist (the therapist was NEVER in her office) and she got manhandled by the male nurses and forced her into her bed, giving her a shot the kids called "booty juice" to calm her down. mind you, mass majority of the children in this institute were admitted for suicidal thoughts, attempts, depression, or self harm. if you needed to talk to someone, you'd have to wait until you were scheduled to talk to your doctor to be put on a new medication. the same 13 year old was viciously talked about by the nurses during cafeteria time and when i spoke up about it i was told i was hearing things. on top of all of this, you're locked in your room half of the day. wake up at 7, get your vitals checked, eat breakfast, recreational therapy which was literally just coloring, go to the day room (plastic chairs, all pushed closely to each other) for hours until lunch, after lunch is nap time (for HOURS), back to the day room until dinner, and even after you just stay in the day room until its your turn to shower, and then its bedtime. if you are considering bringing your child to this facility and you genuinely care about their mental health, this is not the place. this would be an AMAZING place for delinquents as a punishment. a suicidal child shouldn't feel like they are getting punished for being tired. the ONLY good things i have to say about this place is the food was great, the cafeteria workers were genuinely the sweetest people ever, made me feel like an actual person rather than a broken one, and also the other patients. the kids in this place helped me more than anything."
"There are wonderful staff members and staff who need a lesson in kindness. The Nurse Practitioner Dr. Julie told my roommate (who had every right to leave of her own accord because she had been there more than 72 hours) that her 72 hours had been revoked and they were keeping her for 15 more days. I don't know if this is true but I hope she comes out soon because if it is true then that is against the law. The way they run that place is very disjointed. There is NO communication between departments. When I went it was to get my meds straightened out and (or so I thought ) to get intensive counseling. There was NO counseling whatsoever. Furthermore, my Social Worker called my husband to talk about my case instead of making it a conference call with me included. This makes no sense. There were a couple of slip and falls and the staff did nothing for them. They told them there was nothing wrong with them. They need non-slip mats or something in the showers because they are all tile and very slippery going in and coming out. If I ever need another stay at a place like this I will NOT be staying here again. I was supposed to get an exit survey and didn't get one so I put my survey down here. Shout-out to Ms. G and Mr. A. The hardest workers there. Please note that just because we have mental health problems doesn't mean we're stupid. I know they were monitoring my conversations. I would really like to know why. That is an invasion of privacy. Plus they lie to their patients. I would like to thank the following people for making my stay there more pleasant. Nurse Ms. K, Ms. G, Ms. J, Mrs. J, Ms. A, Mr. A, Ms. M, Ms. D, Ms.C, Ms. C intern, and Mr. W. Thank you so much and God Bless you all."
