"This is such a good museum! I always thought this would be a very tiny museum, so I never prioritized going. I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and went. There is a good bit of local history in many different rooms - some darker than others. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff was friendly, and going here in the off-season meant we had the museum to ourselves. There is an elevator and accessibility ramp for disabled, which I thought was really nice. If you want to learn about Clatsop County (and nearby areas), this is the museum for it."
"I was impressed with the Heritage Museum. I had been wanting to visit for at least two of my my previous trips to and through Astoria. While it may be overshadowed by the larger maritime museum close by, it’s well worth the time to visit this museum which I found to be full of local history. The building itself is a piece of Astoria history which I won’t spoil here. There is a rotating exhibit on the second floor which changes from time to time so I have reason to stop by again and plan to. A bonus is that it is a short walk from the Bowpicker Fish and Chips which I also recommend."
"A great place to stop and learn about the history of Astoria and Clatsop County. The exhibits will take you from the early days of the Native American tribes to the fur trading outposts and the arrival of emigrants to help develop logging and fishing industries. You will see a replica of a cedar plank house and a fur take trading outpost with a number of artifacts. A number of other exhibits include the great fire of 1922, the dark side of early Astoria, and the development of the grocery store industry. Located in the old city hall on Exchange Street and a couple blocks from the Columbia River Martime Museum. One of the great local museums of a very historic region that was the center of fur trading, logging, and fishing with commercial canneries."
"We have been here a couple of times. This museum cornicles the evolution of Astoria. I have always known it as a sleepy little fishing town that has worked to become a tourist destination. I learned there is much more to Astoria's history here."
"I was so greatly impressed that Astoria is keeping its historical buildings and put them to the service of… everybody! Such beautiful places belong to all of us, a museum is home for us!"
