"What an incredible piece of history! It's nestled right in a quiet neighborhood. The building is open for tours on the last Saturday in September at 1 pm. Otherwise, you can look at it fully through the windows of the building it's housed in and read about it on the plaques. The building is very closely adjacent to private houses and yards, so please be respectful when visiting and keep this amazing historical piece available to everyone."

"A poignant, curious and endearing symbol of thankfulness that France gifted to each of the 48 states and Washington DC + Hawai’i after WWII, this boxcar dedicated to New Hampshire has been well preserved and sheltered, unlike other states’ that I’ve visited. These 49 “forty-and-eight”–style boxcar waggons were each filled with gifts, often regional crafts, from the French people and shipped to the US in 1949. The Merci Train was also called the French Gratitude Train. I love this type of now-nearly-forgotten history."
