"Back in 2021, I visited Dr. Ionascu for a neuropsychological evaluation so I could obtain my Third Class Medical Certificate from the FAA. I needed this test done because the FAA had noticed in my medical records that I was diagnosed with being on the autism spectrum at around 5-6 years old. Go figure. Anyway, fast way forward to being 23 years old and taking this exam, I performed to the best of my ability, and I was confident that I had done it all with a clear and level headed approach. All in all, if I remember correctly, it took about 4-5 hours to complete the series of tests. Some time after that, I received word back from Dr. Ionascu that she determined I was a high functioning individual, capable of holding a medical certificate, which would then enable me to pursue my dream of flying airplanes. At the time, I dreamt of being an airline pilot. I was ecstatic to receive such news, as I wondered for several days following the tests whether or not I had passed. Then, I get the news that I was “a little slower” in a certain part of the test, and Dr. Ionascu recommended I take the whole thing all over again. She also informed the FAA of her recommendation to me, which I understand. In a nutshell, my performance in the whole exam was optimal, except for one part of it, and it’s a number of different tests that make up the whole exam. Dr. Ionascu recommended to me I spend another $3000+ to retake the whole thing, which would amount to a total of $6k spent. I never understood why there can’t be a mere retesting fee for an exam like this, because they are damn expensive. Worst part is, no health insurance you have can cover an FAA evaluation. It’s all paid out of pocket. If you are required by the FAA to take a neuropsychological exam for your certification, I highly advise you to stay away from Dr. Ionascu. If you want to spend $3k for an FAA neuropsych exam and gamble on the possibility you’ll be told “you were slow on one part” and be asked to spend another $3k to do it all over again, by all means, go with Dr. Nicolle Ionascu. However, if you are a human, you should find a cheaper FAA neuropsychologist to take your exam with, and you may pat yourself on the back later for being able to obtain your FAA Medical while having saved an additional grand or so."
