I think it is helpful when a patient is willing to be open and disclose their knowledge and background pertaining to the situation at hand. Example: A pregnant woman has a background in Health-Fitness-Nutrition. This would give the Doctor additional information as a conversation starter on what to discuss with the patient. Vice Versa…If a patient has little background in such an area, this gives the Doctor such as an OB-GYN, a starter point on how in depth discussions should be and further recommendations if needed."
