"Unkind. Impatient. Unprofessional. I saw Deborah for several months back in 2009 when I was on the tenure clock and having a second baby and facing some important life and career choices as a result. She was not only not helpful but actually harmful in some ways. She made unkind and unsolicited comments on my appearance, tried to diagnose my husband without ever meeting him and who was not in there in the room for counseling, and treated me with a level of distain that is pretty uncharacteristic for a therapist or "life coach." About a third of our sessions were spent with her talking about her own life and career rather than mine. It took me a good year to work the courage up to try again with someone else. And when I did, I was shocked by the difference and regretted ever crossing Ms. Hoffman's office threshold."
