"Sold me a tube without a removable valve core (they still make those??) then wouldn’t refund or exchange the obviously brand new tube the following day, which can’t be used with a valve extender, the whole reason I went there in the first place. Unfortunate to lose a customer over something so small."

"TL;DR: I was sold defective or low quality products and given false information by mechanics. Davis Cyclery does not stand by their work. Go to another bike shop (Freewheeler, Bike Collective, etc) and you will get higher quality repairs for less. I went to Davis Cyclery to have a spoke replaced on my rim and decided to also have them put on a new tread (the most expensive option for my wheel size). Within a week, my inner tube had blown out. No problem, I had also purchased a spare inner tube. That one blew out within 1 hour of me mounting it. I went back and after discussion it was agreed that they would remount a new inner tube free of charge and provide me with a 24 hour warranty, something they "never do". Sure enough, within 1 week that inner tube had blown out too. I mounted a new brand of inner tube and new tread and the issues stopped. Either their inner tubes and treads are defective/low quality or their installations are to blame. While I was at the shop talking about these 2 blow outs, the mechanic told me to "never inflate past the minimum recommended PSI on the tire tread". The 2 reasons I was given were: 1) As the tires spin, the air moves to the outside due to centripetal force. 2) As the tires warm up, the air inside expands. These combined will not account for more than a 5-10 PSI increase at max. My other tire (with a different inner tube and tread brand) can handle the maximum rated PSI just fine. I was provided false information that allowed Davis Cyclery to duck responsibility for a low quality/defective product. This whole experience was very annoying, but reveals a larger problem: If Davis Cyclery does not stand by their work, what happens when your bike frame snaps or your MTB shocks break after they worked on the bike? They will take no responsibility and you will be the one possibly injured. There are astronomically better repair shops that are more knowledgeable and cheaper."

"Slow, poor services and hugely overpriced. Much better alternative exists in Downtown Davis. I tried to get my front wheel fixed in the shop, but the front wheel still had issues after biking for less than ten minutes. The shop was reluctant to take any responsibility. Then I went to Davis Bike Exchange (L street). Their employees are considerate. I get my bike fixed much faster with a much cheaper price. Fixing bikes in other shops is strongly recommended."

"I knew nothing about bikes at all, but my girlfriend and I wanted to buy some cruisers. We walked in and saw the huge selection and knew this was the place. Again, we don't have experience, so the employee took the time to explain everything, which I appreciate. He setup our bikes and the car mount for us. Very good experience."
