Evergreen Apartments 316 Monitor Street, La Crosse, WI 54603

"This apartment complex is in a somewhat run down neighborhood of La Crosse, but there are conveniences within walking distance. (Bus stop, 24 hour grocery store, Kwik Trip, several restaurants, and a bar.) And the buildings don't look like much from the outside, but the apartments themselves are very attractive. They had been remodeling the apartments as people moved out, and I lived in a renovated unit. (Brand new carpet, kitchen cabinets, etc.) There are absolutely no amenities in the apartments (not even a garbage disposal), but they're very comfortable to live in for as basic as the units are. There's a gas powered fireplace and a ceiling fan, and the air conditioner worked great. The laundry room also has 24 hour access, and is locked. And if anything happens, there are several security cameras on the premises. I've also seen the parking lot being plowed at 11:30 on a weekend night because one of the maintenance guys lived in my building-he'd wait until it stopped snowing, then go out and start clearing the lot. Evergreen Apartments had a bad reputation at one time, but the people who own that complex now take very good care of it."
