Battery Godfrey Langdon Court, San Francisco, CA 94129
About the Business
Battery Godfrey is a historic tourist attraction located at Langdon Court in San Francisco, California, United States. Completed in 1895, this Endicott-era battery was armed with three 12-inch guns mounted on barbette carriages, making it the first of its kind in the nation. Built to match or outshoot contemporary battleships at ranges of up to ten miles, these powerful guns could fire one 1,070-pound shell per minute. Named in honor of Captain George J. Godfrey, Battery Godfrey played a crucial role in the defense of the coast. Although considered obsolete in 1943, the battery still stands as a testament to its historical significance. Visitors can explore the coastal bluffs of the Presidio and walk along the adjacent Coastal Trail to admire the battery from the outside. While the interior magazines are closed to the public, ongoing preservation work ensures the stability of this important landmark. For more information, contact 415-561-4323 or reach out to the United States Park Police Dispatch in case of emergencies.

"This is a good place to see the Ocean, the Bridge, and the Sunset. Parking is.... Bad. If you can take a bus to Equator Coffee and then walk over that would be best, but there are two handicap parking spots here. Don't count on them being free all the time though. The sunset is great, the bridge view is great, and the people have actually been quite reasonable here. Both SF sides of the bridge have their must-sees, but if you have a car you should take the time to head to the North Side of the bridge and check out Battery Spencer. It's an odd drive around the North Side to get to the viewpoint, but ooh baby is it worth it. 4 stars because getting here can be stressful, but if you can catch a bus over here then it's a good 5 star location and you can snag a Coffee from Equator Coffee (The Roundhouse Cafe) to top it all off."
"Really felt creepy going by myself at firstwith the feeling of it being abandoned but lots of people there and a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge vs the viewpoint location with no parking. Go visit the WWII memorial and Battery while you're there. Those heroes deserve it."
"It was nice view of Golden Gate Bridge from here. Anyhow best view is from Battery Spencer. There were lots of free parking spot. If you want to go to Golden Gate Bridge Welcome center then you can park here. If you want to walk on Golden Gate Bridge then you can also park at here."
"Nice and beautiful place to enjoy nature. Very scenic view of Golden Gate Bridge can be seen from here."
"This place is fabulous! Free with limited parking available. We love to run and explore around all the nooks and crannies of the batteries. Each battery links to the next by a series of trails. Picturesque views that you can’t see anywhere else in the world! The only area to see this angle of the Golden Gate Bridge. Great Cliffview to the Pacific as well. Truly a highlight of my children’s visit. Be careful after dark as transient population uses these batteries for shelter if they are able."
