Reviews of Camp Reynolds (West Garrison)
"Great spot to see the well restored garrison buildings. Unfortunately a lot of buildings that pre-COVID would be open to the public were closed. Still worth a visit and great detour trails to Point Stuart lighthouse."
"Angel Island Civil War camp is a wonderful experience. Major Andrews is incredible."
"A very cool military camp on the west side of Angel Island. There are multiple boarded up buildings and one at the top center of the camp with original furniture that can be seen through the windows. Well worth the hike from the docks and also provides stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco."
"Angel Island is a nice day adventure. We kayaked over from Sausalito and were lucky enough to stay overnight in the old garrison as we were with ETC guides. The ferry from Sf and Sausalito takes you to the Island. 360 degree views from the middle of the bay. It was the "Ellis Island of tbe West" so a venture to the Immigration Center is a must. Great hiking. There are campsights that book way in advance. Blacktail deer and many types of birds roam the island. The photos are of the Old Camp and the South/Southwest/West part of the island."
"We went to Camp Reynolds on a 4th/5th grade field trip which is part of the living history program the state park does. It was the most amazing field trip ever complete with militia training, flag signaling, baking, cooking, compass hike, night hike to the top of Mt Livermore, night watch duty, and canoneering. The kids learned so much and as a parent, I was thrilled with the whole program. Such an amazing opportunity to experience the civil war era."
