"My husband and I have lived here almost two years. We have a newborn baby and we are constantly exposed to second hand tobacco smoke coming from our upstairs neighbor’s unit, even though these are “smoke free” and “luxury” apartments. The ash lingers and causes us coughing, headaches, and sinus issues, even though we air out our unit. When I was pregnant, I physically had to leave my unit and sit in my car because the smoke made me so ill. Management is fully aware of our situation, but they are terrible. No matter how many times my husband and I call the office, visit the office, or email the bosses of management, nothing gets done. We have been trying to transfer units, but the apartment manager does not follow up with us when new units become available and after giving us false hope, claimed she does not know if we can transfer units, yet she will not contact her boss and find out. I fear for my baby’s life every single day and cannot live in peace knowing she could die of SIDS. We will not be renewing our lease. If I could take legal action against The Charleston, I would. On a separate issue, we have had to call the City of Sacramento to come investigate an ongoing mold issue. Maintenance led us to believe the work they did was a permanent fix, when really, it was temporary. The inspector told us we need an entire new window due to the mold and a notice was sent to the office, yet it has been weeks and do you think the issue has been fixed? Of course not. So many unsafe living conditions you will be exposing yourself to if you move here. Please read the reviews."

"My wife and I lived here for 3 years...it's really not worth it, look somewhere else. For us each year was a worse experience that came with increased rent. Cheaper to move somewhere else that's a lot safer and recently built or renovated. The 3 years we lived there they never once changed the water filter for the fountain in the gym, took almost a month to fix our water heater, they had my car towed 3 times, once out of my own spot and my window smashed in twice. Our packages were stolen several times and the cats in the area constantly dug up our plants, new management team is a lot worse than the previous one as well. Just not worth it."

"I would give The Charleston and its management team a 0 if I could. The most unprofessional team of misfits in the leasing game. Not only is the property kept disgusting, those in charge are disgusting. There's roaches, rats, trash everywhere, always some drama…and they insist on keeping your security deposit despite how unwarranted. Do yourself a favor, find somewhere else to live."

"I recently moved in to the Charleston Apartments and I must say I am very Satisfied. The Leasing office was very Nice and made this whole process 10x easier… Jade was amazing and very accommodating to my needs . Also the maintenance guy was awesome if I had any issues he was able to help me with no hesitation. Super glad i decided to move here"

"I am a housing navigator working for a nonprofit. The previous manager Marquis was wonderful at the time he was here. Some things I've noticed while working with this complex the last year. Management comes in late, leaves early, take lunches at the same time for well over 80min, and the professionalism they treat each other with causes second hand embarrassment. No need to speak to each other so rudely. Most important, for this location the units are WILDY over priced. There is little to no control of the teenagers breaking into cars, they don't call truancy officers on them, cars get stolen from the parking lot because the gate breaks. Maintenance is great, apart from the new supervisor, who I met last week and is beyond incompetent when asking about turnovers and amenities and how many open units they have. Do better. Hire better."
