"My son had his first overnight sleep study here in March 2023. I hope to warn families who are first time using this facility possible cons. 1) Unprofessional technician: Our technician David was very mad with us when he found my son applied lotion before he came in. He insisted that we should know before the appt and became impatient with us the rest of the night. Honestly there was no communication on Mychart nor over the phone instructed we couldn't lotion before sleep study. The technician threw wires and towel to us on his bed, yelled at my son several times the rest of night, in the end he even waked up him at 4:30am when he was still in sleep cycle and discharged us unexpectedly. The original schedule is to discharge him around 6am-7am. Obviously David just wanted to get us out after he collected 6 hours minimum requirement and didn't consider my child's rest and experience at all. Overnight sleep study with a young child at a new facility with an emotional technician who keep showed angry faces to the patient, yelling at him through the microphone just made me feel unsafe all the night. * My technician at Redwood City Standford Sleep Clinic told me, in fact: a) Technicians are not allowed to wake up the patient if they are in the middle of sleep cycle. My technician actually waited to wake up up at 7am when I finished the sleep cycle (1hr passed my scheduled wake up time). b) another thing I learned from my own sleep study technician is that even patient applied lotion by mistake, they could just simply wipe them off. It is not a big deal. 2) Pediatric sleep clinic director is not standing with Stanford vision: I filed a complain to Parent Experience right after. My complain was about the rude technician who conducted the sleep study unprofessionally and damaged my child's trust to Stanford through oral and physical aggressions. Seeing how the sleep study was poorly conducted, I had no trust with the result at all. We requested a re-do immediately with another technician and being waived for being billed for the horrible experience. Every time I communicated with the pediatric sleep clinic manager Antonio, the Parent experience staff Rachaelle, I kept repeating the same request. We shouldn't be charged for a poorly conducted procedure which the process damaged my son physically and mentally, not to mention I didn't expect the test result would be meaningful to us. (proved later by Sleep study doctor) After 6 months communicating with Antonio, Rachaelle, pediatric sleep clinic director Darrielle Ehrheart sent me a formal letter said she reviewed the the sleep study and it was "performed correctly." so we should pay the bill. Ironically she attached a Parent Experience Right with her letter. The sleep study conducted by the technician David was against 7 patient's rights they listed!! I was so disappointed with her response that she chose to stand for her unprofessional technician instead of Stanford's goal and vision. To learn from our experience: 1) When scheduling, make sure you request they arrange a child-friendly technician. Definitely avoid the technician named David. 2) If possible, check in details with doctor for advice how to prepare for the the sleep study night. Be sure to check the meds, and over the counter med that would apply to skin. 3) Bring a noise cancellation headphone. (We had a crying baby next door all night long) 4) If possible, I would suggest sent a male family member to stay overnight with your child. Being a female with my child at the clinic overnight, I avoided direct conflict to escalate the emotions of the rude technician 5) If you really encounter a bad technician, choose to walk out than endure the whole night. The damage to the child mentally and physically is not worthy at all. You could always re-do a sleep study but the bad experiences will be hard to be healed. 1 star to manager Mr. Antonio and 1 star to Ms. Rachaelle for their efforts tried to rally and improve the clinic. There are still good technicians in this clinic. I hope you have the good one!"
