"I lived here for just a year after moving to the area from out of town. I leased the unit site unseen, which was an easier process than attempting to actually view it in person it seems. Good: I gave this place 2 stars (vs 1 star) because of Javier and the onsite maintenance staff. They are wonderful and do what they can for tenants. There are a ton of dogs in the complex, most friendly. Beautiful trees that were recently trimmed (thankfully bc they were unsafe most of the time I lived there). Location is close to bike and walking trails, the local library, and main shopping areas of Marina, plus a ton of hotels nearby. The laundry room was just upgraded after multiple break ins and break downs. Small gym that was typically available. They did just repaint the complex which looks good. One covered parking spot available per unit. Bad: Corporate management is TERRIBLE. My apartment flooded from a pipe bursting while I was out of town. It flooded for several days until it was reported (neighbors saw the water and said NOTHING!!!). I was required to move all my belongs myself, the contractors stole one of my tools which I was never reimbursed for, I missed mandatory work training and hurt my shoulder so badly moving things that I am having surgery this month to repair the damage. This flood - even though I had insurance - cost me physically, financially, mentally and impacted promotion potential for my new job. Javier was great but the on site manager and corporate were awful and had no concern nor offered any support for an issue that was not my fault. The repairs were done within two weeks but there were major flaws in the repairs esp. with the floorboards and paint. I lost furniture, personal items, had to use annual vacation leave, and so many more issues from this hot water pipe bursting. The dog park stinks of urine when the sun is out. It is terrible. The laundry units are often broken, the washing machines covered in dog fur and people leave their stinky laundry for hours. DO NOT MOVE into a first floor unit unless you LOVE hearing elephants above you. The management has started taking out the carpet in bedrooms, so I could hear my neighbors above me - and everything that happens in a bedroom/bathroom. Also, when they removed the carpet, the window in my bedroom started to shake all the time waking me up throughout the night. You will smell what everyone is cooking in the community hallways and possibly in your apartment. The fire alarms go off frequently when people are cooking as well. Trash/recycling - bins are always overflowing, there isn't enough recycling bins and people just leave their trash out to be disturbed by animals. People move in and out frequently. Three tenants moved in and out above me in the year I was there. Corporate uses a terrible algorithm to establish unfair peak pricing rent. You can find another unit in a better place for cheaper - I did! They will take as much of your deposit as possible. I requested a pre-move out inspection and move out inspection - neither occurred. and then they took half my deposit which did not arrive within the legal timeline of 21 days. The management called me a week after I moved out to ask if I was moving out?? I left a week before! and the main person I was communicating with did not communicate that to other staff. They took half my deposit though I had the place professionally cleaned, most of the place had been remodeled/painted due to the flood 6 months into my lease, and I was a solo tenant no pets for just a year. Though the way I was treated here, I expected them to take the entire deposit. Know what you are getting into. Loud, stinky, unsupportive complex with trash issues but has covered parking, is dog friendly, and if you are new in town a potentially good transition place that will take all your money and potentially destroy your personal items. Also - no bike lockers or EV charger. It impacted my career and health living here. I did meet some nice people who lived there though???"
"Very poor quality apartment complex. Poor maintenance, the carpet has a weird smell and nothing works properly. The billing system is hard to understand, and the office will not get back to you with answers to your questions. I regret moving here, and am counting down the days to getting out of my lease."
"I really wanted to give this apartment complex a chance because their actual spaces and parking all look great (I have not lived here - this was my experience just trying to get a tour)! I could not handle trying to schedule tours with management though - they were 15 minutes late to my first tour with them, and then I tried to schedule two more tours with them but they didn't show up to one of them and the other one, they didn't confirm the appointment or send all the parties the ID verification link needed for the tour. It's always an answering machine, no one answered my calls. When I did get a call back, it was random times in the day, and they were just saying they were on a tour, so they couldn't respond, but there needs to be communication before a tour. That is common management manners. I personally felt some passive aggression as well. They also offered me two months rent free after the first no show tour, which I found odd. I think just having one manager makes it impossible for them to get work done, they need more than one manager, and they need a texting service in place, someone that can email or just better communicate. The communication style of the current manager leaves much to be desired. Until management is sorted, I would never recommend this place for anyone."
"Tenants seem to come and go. Believe the reviews here on Yelp. If it weren’t for the prime location as well as the helpful staff (Veronica, Brian, Javier, and others to name) that do their best within their control to assist tenants despite the faults and flaws of Greystar/Shoreline at Monterey Bay, this review would be zero stars. Shoreline at Monterey Bay Manager Malena is helpful within her limits. Know that the management team jumps between here and another Greystar property Marina Crescent. As long as you know what you are getting into, the flaws of this place may possibly be more tolerable given your precautions and knowledge of these flaws as well as with your communication with your neighbors and Shoreline at Monterey Bay management team. Otherwise, you are in for an unpleasant surprise. Unfortunately, below are things only your fellow neighbors and former tenants would tell you about living here before you move in IF they even know about these flaws (hope this encourages others to give accurate reviews to save tenants headaches): First floor tenants: Do you see an out of place cylinder/pipe in your hallway? In your living room? In your closet? That is a sewer clean out. A sewer cleanout’s purpose is to provide an outlet for the sewage pipe if there is ever a back up. Other possible outlets for a potential sewage clog are the bathtub and the toilet (warning signs of impending plumbing issues is a bubbling toilet and/or low toilet water level). This sewer cleanout is meant to serve you and your neighbors within proximity of your unit such as your neighbor directly above and possibly the two across. It would be most sensible to NOT keep any belongings near this sewer clean out pipe so plan accordingly. It is possible that gas leaks from this clean out as well so think about how to identify and remedy that with frequent ventilation or other solutions as it seems that Greystar/Shoreline at Monterey Bay will not change this atrocious sewer cleanout design anytime soon. From what I heard about moving out, Shoreline at Monterey Bay will typically try to keep as much of your $500 deposit as possible just as you would try to retrieve as much of it as possible and then hope that you not fight their third party cleaning costs to remedy their property flaws at your expense. That is even if you request a premoveout and final moveout inspection as well as take really good care of the unit. In my opinion, it shouldn’t cost more than $120 for general cleaning for a unit that is already generally clean. $300+ is way too excessive for general cleaning, especially if this cost is not brought up in the premoveout and final inspection. It is advisable to request the premoveout and final inspection with the actual property manager (Malena at the moment) to anticipate exactly what to expect regarding the return of your security deposit. That is if your requests are even attended to. If you have questions, leave a comment here. Utilities (Trash, Sewer, Water, and pest control) are shared and divided amongst the whole Shoreline at Monterey Bay community based on your unit’s dwelling occupancy. There are two blue regular household recycle bins for each building (10-20 units). They will charge for hauling recyclables left outside the two full recycle bins when moving out despite there being inadequate capacity for the building. *Other notables are that the tenant demographic seems to be college students, blue and white collar professionals, retirees, and it seems the shortest lease offered is 12-13 months (used to be much shorter available) with deposits of $500. Some guest parking and lots of street parking on Lake Drive and beyond. If you have any questions, leave a comment or better yet, ask a current tenant their genuine experience living here. Take care."
"My experience at the Shoreline was nothing but positive for my year of living there. Traci was always responsive to my needs, maintenance issues were fixed immediately and overall the property is well maintained and safe! The laundry rooms are reasonably priced and the fact that it's pet friendly and within walking distance to the beach is a plus. The apartments are on a quiet street in Marina and within walking distance to all of the local shops and farmers market. I'll miss this place!"
