Reviews of Preston Park Apartments
"I love living here. We applied and moved in within 2 weeks, last November. The apartment was newly remodeled, everything was clean, and staff was professional and courteous. It is a quiet neighborhood, close to work, with quick access to the 1 and the 101. I almost never hear our college neighbors, who hold parties often, and love the access to the woods behind the apartment. Parking is, unfortunately, very limited and that is my only complaint. It is a wonderful place to live."
"The other reviews complaining about the lack of parking and poor internet speeds are valid complaints. Years after management responded to comments claiming to be working on a parking solution there have been no efforts made to add parking spaces. There are large islands at the ends of each court that only offer a handful of parking spots despite their large size being capable of fitting more. If that solution is somehow not in the budget, (I don't see how that could be the case with how much they charge for such old and basic apartments) it wouldn't be difficult to paint lines for curbside parking to mark out parking spaces instead of letting people take up what could otherwise fit two cars with their small sedans because the neighbors are inconsiderate and don't park so that others can fit. Slow internet was, up until recently, a problem ($60/month for an unusable 3 MB/s download speed) but is no longer an issue since Suddenlink now services the neighborhood and offers speeds up to 1 GB/s download. The courts are narrow due to the large islands so they end up functioning as round abouts, the problem with that is that there are no signs stating it's one direction only (despite only one car being able to fit at a time) so while most people drive around in one direction, some lovely neighbors cut straight across because going around is just too hard for them. Traffic jams ensue. How hard would it be to again, paint some indicators on the ground? The only good thing is that maintenance requests are answered quickly and the workers do a great job as others have mentioned. If you can somehow get in to this housing after being on the waiting list for a month or more, and you can handle not being able to find a parking spot despite management replying to online reviews pretending like they have plans to improve the situation but it remains the same two years later, and you like neighbors parking in your driveway, parking behind you in the driveway, standing in the middle of the street and refusing to move when you try to drive past, driving 15 miles over the posted speed limit, and the police showing up once every couple of weeks because your neighbor is a drug dealer, just wait until you try to move out. The house is clean and you're finally free from the stresses of packing? Bet you can't wait to get that deposit back. Nope. Clean as much as you can yet it's still going to be your responsibility to pay for the flaws of these cheaply built homes from the 60s? I can't imagine that they charge anyone less than the most expensive heavy cleaning. The carpets are somehow expected to last 5 years despite the number of tenants and honestly nothing you do to prepare for move out will be good enough to avoid paying several hundreds of dollars to fix poor repair jobs from previous contractor jobs. If you move here please do yourself a favor and really pay attention and report every little flaw because these people will try and come up with any reason to rip you off and there will be nothing you can do about it."
"If you have no other options, I apologize that you must look into this place...You can expect neighbors who will throw trash into the street including diapers, you can expect a gardening crew that has given up on providing any type of legitimate services, you will pay substantially more than these old, dirty, broken-down homes are worth and the management shouldn't operate a lemonade stand let alone a huge housing-projects complex like Preston Park. 1995 internet services with 2018 prices and zero adequate parking options. Worst rental decision I have ever made involved this place, they choose to uphold policy subjectively... the only decent aspect is their maintenance staff who work hard and are nice people. Good Luck but avoid this City-owned cash grab if possible."
"I enjoyed that maintenance always seemed to get everything fixed in a timely manner. The office staff was very professional. However, we only had AT&T as the option for our internet, and it sucked. Also, the office was less than courteous when we moved out and they took money from our deposit for cleaning when we had already cleaned the whole place ourselves. Then, when I asked what they had to clean, they said they couldn't tell us...."
"This is the worst place I have ever lived. And Ive lived in almost 40 different places. They housing office is incompetent, no people skills and have no clue what they are doing. They told me I could get a few days extra to pay rent because the woman who I was living with passed away. After I wrote a personal check they said they could not accept it. After I tried to pay online they declined it. 1 day after rent was due they put up an eviction notice. This townhouse has been in the family for over 15 years. And that's how they treat people. Do yourself a favor and LOOK elsewhere, this new management is the worst thing I have seen yet."
