"I called to inquire about possibly birthing at this birth center and spoke to someone who said that Tammy, the midwife, will be returning my phone call before the day was over. I left my name and number, however, I received no call back. If there was a reason as to if I was disqualified or maybe she was booked for my birth month, the least that could have been done was contact me and explain. Very unprofessional and completely unacceptable."
"My wife and I would have never thought that giving birth can be so easy and feel so natural. This experience gave us brand new perspective on many things. We are very grateful for all the help and guidance from Tammy, Brittany, and their amazing team."
"I have so many great things to say about the Birth Your Way team. I'm a first time mom and I knew I wanted an out of hospital birth. I looked up many midwives/birthing centers near me. I found out Birth your Way took my insurance (IEHP) and I scheduled a tour to learn more. After that day, my husband and I knew we wanted to deliver our baby there. We didn't even tour or call any other places after that. Every appointment was very personal. Tammy never made it feel rushed, asked many questions and answered all my questions and more. It never felt like a doctor visit. If I had any doubts they were always replaced with confidence that Tammy made me feel. Delivery day: I arrived at 9.5 cm at 1pm and thought my baby was ready to go, but my labor stalled and I didn't deliver until 9pm! I never felt rushed. Tammy helped me during labor so that I wouldn't tear. Brittany and another team member helped me push (with babies in their carriers). Even when I felt like I couldn't anymore, they helped me get through. I trusted I was in good hands. My delivery was everything I wanted and more and I have their team to thank for that. She even continued care postpartum and is more than just a midwife, she is also a friend and I look forward to having here be there for future baby! I definitely recommend Birth Your Way!"
"Desperately needed help/care as I just found out I was pregnant, I was uninsured and had type 2 diabetes. Called and left message… 4 days later, got a call and was told by the assistant (the midwife never spoke to me directly) that she would speak to the midwife on my behalf and call me back. 2 days later I called to follow up since they never called me back. The assistant returned my voicemail and informed me that they could not help me because I am considered “high risk” (that’s understandable). I asked for ANY recommendations or even just ANY resources (a website, a brand name, an organization, etc —ANYTHING) to get me started on the right foot —as a pregnant diabetic I was VERY worried/concerned for the health of my developing baby and hoping that ANYONE in this office (of prenatal caretakers) cared enough to at least steer me in the right direction. Was flippantly told to do my own “Google” search or to call or a nurse help line. I told the woman that I understood that I would not be able to receive “professional care” from them but just looking any bit of help or direction they could offer as a courtesy —‘just point me in the right direction while I’m waiting for my medical insurance to finally get established’. The assistant said she would call me the following week after checking back with the midwife. Again, she never bothered to call me back. I was referred to this facility by a satisfied customer —but I felt super disregarded and uncared for… I didn’t get the sense that these people cared about me or my baby in the slightest. Would never choose to entrust them with my care."
"The moment I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted an “at home” birth. All natural, in an environment I knew was calm, welcoming and serene. I had heard about Tammy Stokes at Birth Your Way from a few of my friends whom previously delivered their babies with her. Hearing their stories about how amazing their births went because of Tammy by their side, I knew she was the midwife and support I needed through my pregnancy and, ultimately, during labor. The moment I met Tammy and her staff, they were extremely welcoming and showed how much they cared. They listened to me and answered all questions I had. Made my husband become at ease even more so with the natural birth idea and are very much supportive for every individual who walks through their doors. Each appointment at Birth Your Way was better than the last and so warmly inviting. It makes a difference when the one who potentially is going to deliver your baby actually wants to get to know you, ask how you are, how life’s been, simply how your day is going. That alone is such an amazing feeling. At the beginning of my pregnancy, I saw my doctor twice. Both times he was not personable, only told me negative things because I mentioned delivering with a midwife and wanted me in and out as quick as possible. He truly showed me that I was just another dollar sign to him. Fast forward to the day my water broke, Tammy was so quick to reply to texts and answer all phone calls. She constantly checked in on me to see if contractions had started, what I was feeling, telling me what to do.. all while keeping me calm and relaxed. Unfortunately for me, I was not progressing and ultimately had to transfer to the hospital. Without going too much into detail, it was the worst experience I have ever had. My labor and delivery was extremely traumatic and the nurses never made me feel welcomed to be there. Between them telling me they don’t know how to treat my pain after the c section (allergic to Ibuprofen), drawing blood every hour it seemed like, rejecting certain wishes I had and not taking the time to actually listen to me, I felt so discouraged and helpless. This should be one of the happiest moments of my life and yet, I was treated so so poorly. Tammy kept in contact the entire time and truthfully, she was that glimmer of hope I needed at the time. I wasn’t able to see my daughter the two days I was there, as they told me I was Covid positive, with no symptoms. Rejecting me retesting, again, I felt helpless. I had asked the nurses for a lactation consultant before leaving the hospital, as I had no idea what I was doing with this being my first child and they told me to call back in 5-7 days since I was Covid positive… Really?! Because I could not see my baby during my stay, I was not able to produce any milk and left the hospital not knowing how I was going to feed my baby. Tammy, being the heaven sent angel that she is, met us at our house with 200 ounces of donor milk and took the time to show me how to get the baby to latch. Again, Tammy went above and beyond, was right there by our side and constantly checked in on my the rest of the day. Two days later, we had our first check up with Tammy and her staff. To my surprise, they had all talked about doing a rebirth and asked if I was willing to allow them to do this for me. What is a rebirth you might you ask? Rebirthing is an alternative therapy technique used to reactivate attachment disorder. It helps to resolve negative experiences from birth that may prevent you from forming healthy relationships. The technique gives you the do-over of the event, without the trauma you originally experienced. Them even thinking to do this for me brought tears to my eyes. They care, they show how supportive they are and they are the reason I’m able to talk about my birth without crying or changing the subject now. To anyone looking for the perfect midwife, I cannot recommend Tammy Stokes enough. She’s not just a midwife, she certainly becomes your family."
